Mr Cook

sorry, can't see how humility amounts to more than a social nicety. you do it for the sake of the feelings of others. this is sport, everything you do is designed to humiliate the opponent for 90 minutes. in a bitter rivalry it goes beyond the 90 minutes. there is a fine line but I don't see this as being a major transgression, more of a throw-away bit of banter, which is central to football. cmon, it's not to everyone's taste, but it's everywhere, people like it, like to give it, like to recieve it. I'll be honest, to me, modesty is pretty insubstantial in the grand scheme of things. It's important to many people but it's not as important as things like generosity, honesty and fairness. not bullying the officials, that is important. not trampling on people for the sake of it, important. not using your good fortune to destroy others, important. this..... trivial.

FFS surely someone in Cook's position should understand that nothing is 'closed' in this day of 24-hour news and video phones, but to assume nothing would get out with a television crew there???

What he said was what any Blue would say, but he needs to understand that working for the club is not the same as supporting it. Mr Cook, please stop trying to endear yourself to us and just get on and do your job. Do it well, do it quietly and you will have our respect. Keep making us look like muppets and you wont. Simples.][/quote]

Agree with the above

Phil Thompson has just stated on ssn "the interview" so he and the rest of the press are under the impresion that it was an interview and not a closed session.

Fuck it.

Maybe if we're dead lucky GC and the ADUG lads will fuck off soon and we can go back to being a hopeless mid table club with no prospects. At least then we can bang on about how loyal we are because we go to watch a team that has no chance of a trophy. I mean, we're the most loyal fans ever, right? No other club with no prospects has any fans, right?

Fuck me, we've won the lottery and most of us are pissing and moaning because the big cheque they presented us with is a bit too big or the edges of the card are scraping our precious, loyal, little fingers.

Fair enough, I'm nervous about the thought of us winning a trophy too but I'm not scared of it, bring it on, I want it for fucks sake!

The other night just seconds after beating Manchester fucking United (champions of England for past 3 seasons and Euro winners and runners up in the past 2) in a semi fucking final a post appeared on here slagging Benjani!

I put it to you that if the only emotion you felt immediately after the whistle on Tuesday was to slag off our 1234231th choice striker then you're in this for the wrong reasons.

I can't be arsed saying anymore and I'm aware I'll be called every name under the sun for refusing to play the 'slag City off no matter what' game but that's just me.

I followed City through thick and thin because I dreamt of a time like this when we could compete. I never wanted a fucking chufty badge for going to away games in Div2, I never felt the need to prove my loyalty by revelling in our failure. For me it was just a test before the big time came a knocking. For some it seemed to define them.

PMSL it's all going reasonably well on the pitch so the League Of Not Very Intelligent Gentlemen decide to start kicking off with the board members on here! Brilliant.

How long before Khaldoon and the Sheikh are given the BM abuse and stick, now we just need a flimsy reason gleamed from reading a tabloid newspaper or Sky Sports News...

My faith in this place dies a little on a daily basis, I really want to see City do well but in this digital age where the moron on the street can become an instant spastic celebrity online I fucking worry.

Anyway, the real world calls...enjoy your Daily Star and Sky Sports fix people and remember, whatever happens SLAG FUCK OUT OF CITY FOR ANY REASON THE PRESS GIVE YOU, YOU ARE THE PUPPETS SO LET THEM PULL THE STRINGS.

Sorry mate, but I've heard and seen Mr Cook in action with my own eyes and ears.
I don't need to be told that my reason for finding him lacking in the skills needed to operate at the level he's at are based on a "a flimsy reason gleamed from reading a tabloid newspaper or Sky Sports News..."

Why would anyone on here give the Sheik or Mr Khaldoon stick? To my knowledge-no one has yet heard publicly from the Sheik and Mr Khaldoon conducts himself with tact, diplomacy and consumate professionailsm in all his interviews.
No mention from him of "bottlers" or "Richard Dunne not exactly rolling off the tongue in Bejing."
In fact-I seem to recall a certain ex-Portsmouth owner getting potted pretty quickly after the takeover after his outburst about City being the "biggest in the world" and signing Ronaldo,Gerard etc...hardly synonymous with the comments made by Mr.Cook.

And mate-that "instant spastic celebrity" remark is in pretty poor taste tbh.

Those examples you have given all come down to the potential perpetrator having humilty and/or respect and/or being a better class of person. What he said does not only affect him, that would be no problem at all if it did and thats what fans all over the globe do. What he says, not just on this occassion but everytime he speaks in public, has much wider implications. If it did not, whats the point in having him here anyway.

Fair do's. I'm all out of arguments to be honest.

As for the 'spastic' comment, I meant spastic as in knee jerk, random, and not in the disability way.

TMQ, I like you and all that, but fuck me you're like a stuck record sometimes.

Because there is a debate about something or someone at the club it doesn't mean that our entire support wants us back in division 2. It's a nonsense point that you keep making on every thread these days. I don't believe there is a single one of our fans anywhere (apart from maybe Colin Schindler) who are not over the moon about our resurgence.

It may not be a concept you understand but you can love our club with your whole heart and still feel aggrieved that our Head Honcho keeps embarrassing us. Maybe it's love for the club which generates these emotions.

Enter the debate. Stand up for Cook if you want like others have.

But don't just sit on the sidelines making silly comments. It does you no favours, mate.

No offence.

I normally enjoy a good read off you TMQ, but these last two posts have been so wide of the argument.
Sounds like its that time of the month!!

Fair play mate.Points well made and taken.

This.

I have no problem with him churning out a bit of spin for some pissed up fans to lap up, the fans have a laugh and Cookie gets his ego massaged a bit, no harm done. It becomes a different thing entirely when there's a TV crew present, then he has to present a professional image as opposed to looking like that embarrassing **** Mike Ashley pretending to be one of the lads.

I don't particularly want him out of the club, just keep him away from the press as he's a complete amateur when it comes to dealing with them.
