Mr Whippy

I've no idea where this affectionate nickname for Gundo has come from, but I'm totally in to it. Can someone help me out as to its origins?

Did it not come from that guy who does an alternative commentary for the highlights of City games on Twitter? Heard him use the term Mr Whippy when he curled one in against Palace last month.
