Barm,Close thread!
Re opened as anyone with history around these parts know's its a Lancashire Oven Bottom MUFFIN.

The muffin started in the 1800's, the barm probably 1974. The Barm brigade have no "istory", and although I requested it they can't/won't produce one. It's a traditional "Lancashire Oven Bottom Muffin".

End of thread.

Barm, the yeast-induced froth on top of fermenting beer which has tradtionally use to leaven bread. The derivative "barmy" (frothiness) can be traced back to the 15th century. 1800's?!?! don't make me laugh....by the time some foreign traveller confused the barm with a cake and called it a muffin the barm was already mouldy.
