Most outlets in the more discerning areas of North Manchester - Blackley, Collyhurst, Harpurhey, and Crumpsall wouldn't bat an eyelid if yer asked for a whatever-on-it muffin! I can see that Alky would be the same. 'Tis only when yer get to the areas where people have a shillin' on 'emselves that yer hear 'em asking for all sorts of perversions - barm, bap, stotty.

To be fair she said to me 'if it had currants in it what would you call it?" to which I replied 'a currant teacake'. As quick as a flash she said 'well this aint got currants in it'
