Muffin or Barm

3 times this week in Alkrington at a bakers I asked for a ham salad/chicken salad/cheese salad MUFFIN. No drama. Was delicious.

Most outlets in the more discerning areas of North Manchester - Blackley, Collyhurst, Harpurhey, and Crumpsall wouldn't bat an eyelid if yer asked for a whatever-on-it muffin! I can see that Alky would be the same. 'Tis only when yer get to the areas where people have a shillin' on 'emselves that yer hear 'em asking for all sorts of perversions - barm, bap, stotty.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned in the previous 798 pages but I was in Leeds and over there they call them teacakes !!!

To be fair she said to me 'if it had currants in it what would you call it?" to which I replied 'a currant teacake'. As quick as a flash she said 'well this aint got currants in it'

Mrs Ewing, Rochdalian to her bootstraps, calls 'em teacakes! We've even had the same conversation re currants! North Mancs just call currant teacakes, teacakes. Teacakes have currants in them so the word currant in 'currant teacake' is somewhat superfluous! It'd be like asking for a bar of soapy soap.

By my reckoning this has now become a scientifically statistically significant sample. barm cake wins 2975 to 1345 for muffin - so Barm wins and the muffin is confined to American style blueberry cakes

Is the right answer, these plastic muffin fanboy's need to fuck off.

When Robbo innocently asked the question over 6 years ago on here "What do you ask for when you go in a chippy?" I wonder if he ever realised that it would be a question that divided City fans and even turned some of them against our chairman when he claimed it was a Muffin.

can we now point and laugh at the Muffin mafia ?

All true mancs never doubted it was a barm I have never been in a chippy and seen a Chip muffin advertised FFS

only Retards and outsiders would ask for anything other than a barm in Manchester
