Music Poll - Favourite Lead Guitarist see OP Closes Midnight today

...Apologies go to Buckethead, Ben Lacy, and this fella for forgetting them in the also rans...I remember seeing this at the time and was blown away. You tube is full of kids playing like this now...Bastards..To long in the tooth to learn this shit myself. (Not sure I could have to be honest).

Imagine being sat with a guitar at a party feeling pretty pleased with yourself as you cycle through your Oasis medley and that guy (Stanley Jorden) steps forward and says, "Can I have a go on your guitar?".....

Stop mithering Buck .. your in .. and a far greater accolde than the hall of fame could ever muster, but did it ever hold much resonance when way too many ultra taleted bands/artists were snubbed on a regular basis.

My favourite ever BOC track and the build is intense!

Mention in dispatches to Castillano for his mighty fine input.

I had a live album. Think it was called ‘on your feet or on your knees’ when I was a hairy teen. Loved it then. Must listen to it sometime soon to figure if I still love it. Buck Dharma if I remember.

I remember when Magic Touch came out, I'd never heard or seen anything like it. I still play it now and again, an apt name for an album if ever there was one.

Re. Buckethead not really near my top 10 but a prolific bloke who's done loads of enjoyable stuff some of which is uber chill.

Nail on the head.

I should re-order my list to be honest because there were two guitarists that inspired me to pick up the guitar as an 11 year old and start playing. They would probably be in any top 20 list anyway (allowing wriggle room for the hard of hearing). The first is Clapton and Layla. That riff just gets me. The second is Santana and the way he allowed the lyrics and other instruments to "lead" and then just used the guitar almost to sing and back that up.

I don't play as much as I'd like but I was re-learning some Dave Gilmour solo's and for anyone who plays the instrument you perhaps give more credit to someone like him than a non-player. The sound he makes and the style he has, for such simple notes is staggering. It's all just basic notes but he just elevates it to another level. I love his composition. It's not flash like you say, it's just the right notes played perfectly.

Another that might not make many lists but is in my top 10 is Mark Knopfler. Again, only by trying to play Sultans of Swing do you see his brilliance. His fingerpicking technique and the way he does almost the opposite to Gilmour and plays the wrong notes but in perfect little licks which make them work.

Interested to see the results from this. I've probably muddled my list with those I think are technically best rather than my actual favourites - those that make me want to play.

I should add I haven't seen many/any shouts for Joe Satriani - not a huge fan of his music (although I like Chords of Life) but someone who taught many other guitarists who went on to arguably be even better than him.
Satriani is technically about as good as it gets as far as this non-muso can tell. I’ll never forget seeing him play Highway Star with Chickenfoot and not only doing the guitar solo but also Jon Lord’s keyboard solo on his guitar, stunning. Allegedly Van Halen wanted him to do a tribute to Eddie tour. He may make my 10.

I completely forgot about this guy!
