Muslim footballers - This is not a dig at Islam

Actually, he's right, maybe putting it abit harsh though. It specifically says in the Quran that the only reason you can skip it is if you're ill or travelling, as football is neither of these then there is no excuse.
Travelling from the penalty box to the halfway line is included in the Quran, I believe ;-)

Anyway, Toure did fully obey the fast.

Yeah I know, what a sick guy he is! Must've been so hard.

the reason i know this as my closest friend is a 'muslim.' i inverted the word as he drinks, does birds, eats non halal but he will not eat pig or break his fast as his little brothers and sisters have to do it, they look up to him as he is the eldest and don't know about his wild ways!

i promise, if it was that easy he'd not bother and just fast a couple of days a month, to make it up!

Before I make my point can I just say this is no dig at Islam, nor is it meant with any disrespect towards Islam or Muslim people.

For those who don’t know, Kolo Toure is a devout Muslim. Devout Muslims fast during the period of Ramadan. This year, Ramadan fell on the dates 22nd August to 19th September which clashed with the beginning of the season.

This seasons derby at OT fell on 20th September, which means Toure (and potentially any other Muslim players) would of been fasting during the build up to this game. This could have affected the condition of the player and their physical/mental preparation for this match, and also any previous matches
The point is, should these players be allowed to participate in Ramadan? Or should they even be played in football matches?

( I am aware that we won the first 4 league matches of the season, I am not criticising Toure’s performances during this period. This point can also apply to various other professional footballers.)

Your penultimate paragraph completely kills your arguement.

If we won all our matches during Ramadan, and our form since has been much less convincing, maybe all our players should fast during daylight for the whole season ;-),

I've been to Turkey several times during Ramadan and always have a game of football in 110+degree heat during the week with my Turkish mates there..

Several are devout during fasting and look absolutely dead after the game...no fluids during the daytime...must be muder.

They still win the match though.

:O Ribery is a muslim like Kolo,
Means he will not be on full potential for us, so we cant get him

ROBI staying!!! :D:D !!!

I remember the article at the time. Hughes was saying that Kolo is meticulous about his profession and has the experience to cope so it won't be an issue.
