Must see documentaries..

Just finished it. Cried my eyes out at 5th episode.
I'm part way through the 5th.

I know there was a British Army veteran who featured in the first episode but the main focus was on arriving in the 60s and incfeased dangers during late 60s and early 70s. The UDR vet in the 4th focused mainly on the dangers she faced at home.

There are other docs out there but it would have been good to hear more insight on how troops felt throughout the 70s, 80s and early 90s. Kit they carried, piss and shit being thrown at them, risks on patrol, getting in and out of that observation post at the top of divis, working in bandit Country (Armagh) etc.

Appreciate the focus being on the people of NI but the British forces paid a heavy price during the troubles.

There's a huge amount of content they could have utilised.

Sun,sea and Satan a documentary by the filmmaker Bill Maloney of pie and mash films
about the Haut de la Garenne children’s home on the Island of Jersey and the subsequent cover up

And so close, it was on our doorstep yet we pretended it was a million miles away
I drunk in same bars as some of those who commited some of the murders mentioned. I'm 61 and when I visit home I'll still walk up one side of the road home. If crowd about I'll go long way round and miss out that road altogether

My dad was there 71-75, he doesn’t talk much about it. He saw some horrific sights, he even had to hear his own brother get shot by an IRA sniper. Fucking grim.

I'm sorry to hear that pal. You are right bud, I only mentioned it for balance given the price troops paid during the awful mess.

"The Price Of Gold"
Only saw it recently.
Documentary about the build up to Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan, qualification for the Olympics and the perceived class distinction in the USA.
