Have read the article through quickly, I agree with so much that you say. Would need to spend time to really analyse the article before I would comment on all aspects and sadly do not have the time now.
It is sad that the Sun got their way but to me even sadder is the fact that cookm was stupid enough, in my opinion, to lie rather than hold his hands up and admit his mistake. If he had admitted the mistake this would have gone away as most right minded people realise the Sun have another agenda.

Although I considered it quite long, it was worth taking the time to read as the content of the article was great. I agree with the significant majority, none more so than your no nonsense and emphatic views of The Suns coverage of this.

I also agree wholeheartedly with the club taking a more hardline approach and this needs to happen. If other news reporters are given access to players or senior members of staff within the club, then they will benefit where The Sun will not.

I am happy to witness the club take out legal proceedings on The People for their recent article on the club and the more regular this happens it will send out a message throughout the media that they will need to be more careful in their coverage of the club. This is easily rectified.

the media and ALL journo's do nothing but slate eachother and back their corners, no one ever wins these little feuds and all in all, i wouldnt take sides with anyone about anything that is to do with journalism. The only people who read newspapers and think it's the truth or agree with what other people say are very small minded individuals indeed. what's the point in even trying to defend cook or slate the ways in which newspapers have an agenda. WE know they do. It does not affect how we play on the pitch and with the talent we have, i hardly think any of them are bothered about reading the papers and as such, the media do not affect our club. As is proven with 4 wins in 4.

I enjoyed reading that LT,always do,your stuff.
Factual and well researched, good link with the Chilean miners to open up the story.Keep up the good work LT.

It's well written and I take some of your points, but I can't agree with your main one.

I don't buy the Sun so I don't know what their overall coverage has been like of City. What I do know is they have a very good source. You'd be surprised. Trust me, really surprised.

The Sun is the most downmarket of tabloids. It prints what it's readers want: gossipy, bitchy stories usually spun from less contraversial facts. That's what it does. If people don't like that then they shouldn't buy it. I think our press is out of control, but that's a different argument. It is what it is at the moment.

City wanted to be at the top table. This sort of coverage comes with being at the top table. If we want to avoid our name being dragged through the mud then we have to be whiter than white. And Cook was a liability ultimately. A well meaning, square jawed, golf playing, cliche-spouting, belly laughing, man's man.

It was always going to end like this. The Guardian would have printed that story if they'd have got it, and Cook would have still gone.

Some City fans are shooting the messenger at the moment.

(realms of an obsessive vendetta)

so true
but like the football on the pitch the club have come to a new level of the media world
we are selling papers we are big news back page front page we are in the papers everyday even little none news like mario and his ipod make the back page

we need to learn how to handle them and work with them like utd and fergie they have got them eating out of his hands
we need to start fighting back with the none story crap they print day in day out bring them to court take the press pass of them or something

but mr cook did not have a clue about the press we have in england and in sport anyway they can make or break you and if they dont like you its over
he was cannon fodder for them and did put his foot in his mouth to many times

but its been coming and from last season behind the sceens something was not right players the manager it was not working with the team and the board
there was a gap from the football to the middle people (CEO)team and the owners

the players was going to the owners with something they was not happy
about something behind closed doors
we (manchester city football club) need to pull together has 1 big happy club
the 3 levels of team board and the owners was not working
the gaps was to big to feel right

i think we will get it right but like i said we are on a new level on and off the pitch

That's a great post mate and very insightful.

The politics and back-stabbing behind the scenes needed to be lanced. Some fans don't want to see it or hear it as all is rosy in their sky blue gardens, but we need leadership.

This will benefit our club in the long term.

So very true. I think as a whole the club have come out of this fairly well and as long as we appoint the right person, we will continue to strengthen.
