My final piece on Mark Hughes.

There will probably be a degree of hostility to this thread saying "give him time" or telling me to support the manager. My simple answer? No, because we haven't got time. If he gets time then we will be fucking relegated, I'm telling you!

My points are the following:

1. Mark Hughes has not got results. I know luck has gone against us with suspensions, injuries et al and I know we've done alright in the UEFA Cup but the fact of the matter is we're two points from the relegation place and we're out of both the Carling Cup and the FA Cup courtesy of Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest, the latter rather convincingly! At home he has won 5 and lost 5 in the premiership and away from home we've won once, drew four and lost 5 - his total record reading won 6, drew 4, lost 10 - quite unacceptable!!

2. The playing staff situation looks a lot worse and if we're going to replace Hughes with Mancini or Hiddink then it needs to happen sooner rather than later so we can sort ourselves out in the transfer window. Thankfully, to his credit, Hughes has bought pretty well in the transfer market but we're left with quite a lot of shit too - Vassell, Benjani, Danny Mills, Michael Ball, Gelson Fernandes (what does he actually do?), Tal Ben Haim and Jo. The problem is we need to sort out the defence yet if SWP, Elano (who may stay under Mancini), Robinho and Ireland are out then we're fucked basically and that needs addressing too. I know they'll be a total overhaul in the summer, but we need to preserve our premier league status primarily!

3. We've gone from the start of the season when we were talking about Kaká, Villa, Messi, Tranny and big names like that and believing we'd qualify for some type of European Football to contemplating players coming in like Bellamy, Darren Bent, Scott Parker who are shite and like someone said on another thread - we need to be aiming for middle ground and building up gradually. Bridge is a good start, we need a new manager to obtain that middle ground because Hughes pulling power is questionable.

4. This is probably the most pivitol and this is what Hughes can be thankful for. These are arabs and thus, they are very loyal and patient yet don't underestimate their desire to see us heading in the right direction sooner rather than later. We are the standout business that are doing absolute shite and it'll make them look like a laughing stock to the fair. The funny thing is we laughed at West Ham for offering stupid wages for average/ shit players and now we're doing the same - karma?

5. His relationship with the fans. Am I the only one that feels that because he was an ex rag and because he has the personality of a turnip, not even that offers him any hope on the terraces. So many people come up to me nowadays and says that he is the cancer of this club and that they never wanted him anyway, and I'd have to agree. What did he achieve with Wales and Blackburn? Where is his winning mentality that Robinho craves?

I'm not going to go on and on about the dressing room because they're rumours but the cold hard fact of the matter is his record in the league, us being out of two cups and the sort of player he is aiming for in the transfer window (by his own admission!) He's not the man to lead us forward people, I'm sorry, but he's not.

You're welcome to back him and credit to you for that, but it's just something I cannot do. He has wrecked last season and set us back two years or so in the ten year project.
city to sign kaka, villa, messi ...... ALL rag loving, red top paper shite, printed so when we dont sign
players like that we get laughed at. hughes and cook have never mentioned any of
these players.
hughes is doing the same sort of thing o'neill has done at villa. buying and going for english or proven
prem players. then when were up in top 4-8 places, maybe a couple more of 'robinho' types.

I might not agree with everything CTID says but I do believe Hughes has put us back by 2 years.
Not too bad, I've waited thirty odd years, but I don't think Robinho will want to wait another couple of years.

This is one of the things that worries me. If Hughes stays it is inevitable that we will finish out of the top 10 and have no chance of qualifying for Europe next year. Robinho has shown he has the quality to be kind of player to build a team around yet there is a strong possibility he will leave if we don't make progress under Hughes. This will set us back hugely.

CTID i admire your way with words and your affection to the club... However i cannot get my head around your comment about Hughes wrecking last year ?? What was there to wreck.

So you thought we were gonna be signing Messi and Kaka this transfer window?

Says more about you than the manager.
That says more about you! All we had to do was kick on from 9th place last season, and the reality of signing those kind of players would be more apparent. You've just fell for Hughes' bullshit of "this squad isn't good enough." - one of the best squads I've seen at City in thirty odd years.

Hmm, doesn't look like I said anything about Hughes there, maybe your just imagining things?

And to the OP, either you believed the talk of superstar signings this January or you didn't, making you either gullable or a hyppocrite.

Unless we have a sudden surge then we have blown two seasons.

If the scum win the Carling Cup we have to aim for seventh. We have the squad but can Mark find it in himself and them to make a realistic challenge? I am not so sure.

One thing for certain is that should he not get us into Europe for next season he will be fired. I don't think anyone can question that. It was the minimum expectation for this season, to be able to build on last. All I see at the moment is regression with a stronger squad which is alarming.

The one thing he has done is expose the weaknesses in the squad, but has also exposed his at the same time. We are in the position to change the squad but all the money in the world will not change Hughes technical and tactical ability, as well as his personality. He has until the end of the season for me. Unless he makes a lazarus type recovery then he will be gone. Of that I am confident.

Then logical dictates that, in order to keep Robinho and encourage others to come, a new 'big name' manage is needed in the summer, regardless of what you think of Hughes. In the end, failure to qualify for Europe is his responsibility, not the players. I don't think [and pray] that we will get relegated, but didn't AC Milan come back from that recently?

Sorry, my wording was shit on that. What I meant is that because we finished ninth and sneaked in the back door with Europe again, the foundations for success were there to be built on and we seem to have gone backwards under Hughes. Yes, I know we fucked up in the second half and thats why Sven had to go realistically, but under Hughes it seems to have continued in a weird sort of way. It's like watching a programme on television once and thinking 'fuck me what a load of shit that was' and then watching the repeat!

I genuinely hope that Hughes is either sacked in the next week, or given until the end of next season. Making him a dead man walking for the rest of the season will be utterly pointless and will virtually guarantee that performances will get worse not better.

On the subject of Robinho leaving...it's, well, impossible. No one can afford his transfer fee or wages...

this is much closer, i know we have weaknesses, but either he doesnt know how to minimise them, or he doesnt want to. if you look at his past record, the slow starts followed by longer term success might support the theory that he feels it's better in the long term for the players and team to realise exactly what their abilities are and what they can't do. like i say, it's either a calculated risk, or it speaks of a lack of ability. that's why I still need more time to make my mind up on him.

At the same time Billy, Robinho will have a relegation clause in his contract which will say if we are relegated he can leave for said amount which will be pre-agreed and we won't be able to control that unfortunately. This is speculation, I don't know that for definate but that is a presumtion I have full confidence in being correct.

Then it's a good thing there's virtually no chance of us getting relegated...

Improve your English so we can understand what you post. Punctuation and accurate spelling would be great!

For me the issue with "giving him time" is that it's not a case of it being a neutral option, week by week game by game, he is doing damage at the club. If we give him until the end of the season AT BEST the new manager will have to repair the damage of the next 4 months, at worst he will also have signed a bunch of players that we have no hope of getting rid of for no other reason than to save his job. I agree the last 6months have set us back 18 months despite now being the richest club in the world.
