My touchstone from Saturday is the FA Cup Final 1981

What about the 5-2 "win" against Stoke? I was totally gutted after that. Going into depths we've never encountered before...

Although the same disappointment was evident yesterday, just to be able to sit there at 8pm with my son watching us in a Champions League Final was an experience we'll never forget. It felt surreal but also made us Blues so proud of what we've achieved and where we have come from.
The Stoke game was absolutely git-wrenching but in a different way. It had similarities, in the quest for tickets, and I ended up dodging punches in the Stoke end. But that whole day was just ugly and horrible and scary from start to finish. There was hope but the hope was just to maintain our status in a lower division. It didn't have the hope of massive glory like yesterday had. We could only hope for relief. But when we drove home in total silence the whole way back you're right, that was bad in a different way. Then there was genuine fear for the future too.

I said this in another post somewhere and tacked on Luton bastard Town in 83 as the next worst feeling, if not actually even worse than 81 tbh, David Pleat skipping across our turf chasing prostitutes in his head no doubt.

I don't think it matters what the worst moment was, but we have plenty of contenders in the rich pageant that is our club's history: we know we can come back from the latest.

Yesterday should have been about achieving immortal greatness and that is the great let down.

Had some bad days in my 58 years following city but I dont think anything will ever be as bad as The luton relegation game, I just felt numb for days afterwards.

This op brought a tear to my eye. I was 13 in 1981 and it really, really hurt. That was back in the day when if it wasn't a world cup year we got one live 90 minute TV game a year plus MOTD or it might have been the Big Match if ITV had the contract.
Read that young people ONE live TV match a year!

Each year I would go to this one shop, just around the corner from my normal newsagent/sweet shop to more like a grocers place and by sweets there for the match, I don't know why it was like a tradition. And the old guy working there had like a small TV on the counter ready for 3pm and it was so exciting and from about 10am onwards I think they had features and quizzes and a camera following the players bus to the ground..... the game, then the lifting of the cup (obvs not in '81!), the News, Basil Brush, Dr Who, the Generation Game, Juliet Bravo, The Two Ronnies, Starsky and Hutch + Bed - my Dad watching Parkinson.

Then 30 years of nothing and now we are here - 3 titles out of 4, cups galore. Last night was sad - but these things happen.

haha. I'm 51 and my first match was 1976. I'd agree with two of those three. I guess we are all a bit different though because I'd put Spurs fa cup 93 and man United league cup 2010 above the West Ham defeat, although they all fit the bill as being a defeat when we were expected glory. I also agree that last night might have surpassed them all. There was so much more glory at stake.
Blimey, Spurs 93, I must have done my best to erase it from my memory as you're bang on, in terms of a one off defeat when your hopes / expectations are crushed (and its subsequent fallout) this defeat is up there with the others. With the utd defeat in 2010 and Wigan 2013 I surprisingly got over them both very quickly. Back to last night & only positive footnote is that 12 months ago we were looking at a 2 year ban from the competition. Now we have the chance to go again in September.
