My YouTube channel - Episode 47 (P25)

Why did they feel the need to cover bridges? Shelter for horse drawn buggies in bad weather back in the day. maybe?
Come on Jim! I answered that in my first introduction!
Being exposed to the mad snow and rain in winter (followed by a strong sun in the summer) had most trusses on wooden uncovered bridges lasting around 10 to 15 years.
Covering them could see a bridge last as long as 100 years

Sorry for missing that point. I don't forensically pore over every one of your videos. I try to catch up on them when I get the time.

Episode 35

That bridge looks solid and not as many gaps in the sides.

Are these QR codes a new thing they're appearing on a lot of bridges now. Technical difficulties you should get a test card sorted with some elevator music and a "We will be back shortly " message on the background :)

Whilst you are boy scouting under that bridge to get a better shot I googled the wildlife that you have there in Vermont, I stopped at Bears and Rattlesnakes, this isn't bloody Moston you need a gun or some Bear rape spray FFS.

That being said an excellent view of the underside of the bridge and its supports.

The QR codes are about 3 years old though not many had them put on. Prior to these last 9 all in the same area, only 2 others had them, again next to each other. It was a case of volunteers putting them up so some did and many didn’t.
At the last meeting it was asked if we should carry on as we pay for them to be in use. I said yes if one is up in every bridge, no if they aren’t!

Been here a year now and haven’t seen a bear or a snake of any kind. Or even a moose! More worried about ticks than anything else!
I finished off editing the next three today and will be heading out to 6 more bridges Tuesday next week to take me to number 44.
A further 4 trips in September and October takes me to 75 - and then I’m stopping until early April as I’ll have enough episodes to carry me over throughout Winter. Not going out in the cold and snow again - and travelling 2 hours each way to do so!
Then 2 separate over night trips up near the Canadian border in April takes me to 100.

Planning a 50th / half way there special with updates on bridges I’ve been to, things I missed out on/ the odd correction and a look at 2 very famous bridges and talk about why they aren’t included - including one bridge that wasn’t there more than a few weeks 30 years ago - yet hundreds of folk go to see it every year not knowing it isn’t there……

If they are on youtube they'll know you're fucking there now, it's like ringing a dinner bell mate.

Yeah, some of those videos could send a chill through your bones, big country big weather it's best to do it more comfortably. (And it'll confuse the fuck out of the Snakes and Bears who expect you and you don't turn up too BONUS!!)

Now I am intrigued, would this be one of those times a bridge gets fixed and put back or is it a new bridge entirely?

Well they built this bridge in 1988 but there was a tragic accident on it a few weeks later, 2 people went through the side of the bridge and into the river and died. The bridge was taken down, but thousands of folk flock there all the time not knowing it has been taken down.
They built another covered bridge on the site last year, bigger than the original as the road had been widened. But that too was taken down after a short while......

A 5 bridge special? Looking forward to a bit of creative editing.

Fined for going faster than a walk, how fast is a walk? :) Isn't it incredible just how many of these bridges are Victorian?

I like the idea of a pedestrian walkway that's got to be handy as are the sprinklers. What a great still of the old creamery and a very apt name for the bridge.

Jesus that little trickle turned into a monster in 2011, looks an excellent place for metal detecting with all that gravel.

the Williamsville bridge may have been constructed in the reign of King William just before the reign of Queen Victoria? Another Triggers new broom bridge which has been done over time.

A bit of research dragged this little factoid up about Williamsville the town.

Williamsville derived its name from one of the first settlers, Jonas Williams, who came in 1805 and who owned two mills on opposite banks of Ellicott Creek.

Are the king truss bridges heavier than the queen truss bridges in general?

Some cracking still photos and pictures describing the area and its history. The Kissing Bridge gives a shout to Vicky which is a nice touch.

Rudyard Kipling was a one time resident of Williamsville and lived near to the bridge!
He wrote The Jungle Book there!

Another late Victorian Triggers broom bridge I see? If you ran across these walking bridges would that be an offence?

5 mins 55 in and I can see that graffiti artists in the colonies can be just as obvious as the ones over here ;-) The side of the bridge on the still photo was shredded and the B&W photo was just like the creamery bridge one.

What an unbelievable place to live overlooking that waterfall, looks like the scene where Rambo blows the Vietnamese up with an explosive arrow.

!3:21 in it looks like there is a little clam pool to sit in just off the bank of the torrent, I wonder if people use it for that?

The king of the obvious, regarding Manchester mate ;-) but a nice touch none the less.

Personal taste I prefer Eric Sloanes painting of the bridge out of the many other very good paintings.
