I can assure you the original poster was not confused. He was making more than one point, and they were quite subtle, so I can understand why some people would not comprehend. Maybe you need bullet points.
Hey ho.

Hey ho.
You are/were confused.
You said that there is a general consensus that Pellegrini is offering extra protection for the defence. It's clear that the opposite is the common view of the moment.
You also suggest Nastasic may fill the role of CDM in the long-term. Very, very odd.

The fact is that one or two posts have made the point that extra help from the midfield has been deployed to help the defence. Since then many posters have agreed with this point or taken it as the default. That was my first point. The second was that central midfielders in a team that has spent hundreds of millions should already have these qualities.
The third point regarding Nastastic. Would make a great defensive midfielder
1 reads the game better than any other City player
2 excellent tackler
3 great distribution
4 very mobile
5 covers attacking runs
6 rarely out of position.
Cant agree with you there. The defence IMO has not had enough protection yet this season, Yaya and Fernandinho haven't clicked. Nastastic IMO couldn't play that role at the top level as he isn't athletic enough, you look at the best DM's and there is no comparison. Martinez, De Rossi, Alonso etc etc

Last night as soon as ferdinand and toure switched we looked a different team. If you noticed they switched that is.
My opinions come from a strong coaching and qualifications background. You are entitled to disagree but please don't dismiss them.

PMH, you are correct in your assesment of the difference between the first and second half tactics, although it wasn't only this switch that happened. First half, Yaya was the player picking the ball up off the defenders, and this changed in the second half (the role switch), however, the more fundemental change was the tempo by the whole team changed. The reduction in touches and the ball ball moving quicker between players was the fundemental change. I personally think both Yaya and Ferndy can do each others roles (DM/AM) but only as long as the tempo is there can the interchangability between them be effective.paulgmurphyhumphries said:Vincent company joined City as a Centre half ?
