Name the players in this 1964/5 squad

Kitman needs sacking, very poor quality socks....mind you x1 pair per player per season then maybe...?
Oh yes, the socks. As a young blue in those days I had a sky blue shirt I wore with pride in a sea of red, but I do recall the socks changing all the time. Hoops of blue white and maroon, sky blue and white hoops, then the classic sky blue with maroon top and white hoops.

I was always Mike Summerbee tearing down the wing. He did it better than I ever could, but I was just a typical kid at the time.

Happy days.

It certainly takes me back to those early days, I remember some of the names not all. And the score board end, it still has the half time scores up, I think we won a few bob once having matched up the scores at half time on the back of the program, cant remember how that worked.

Love this thread. Oh Happy days following City as a teenager in that era, not a care in the world. In general we were pretty awful. By Xmas we were usually well down the league and relied on the cup but we were a soft touch. Grimsby, Shrewsbury(the first time) Southampton who were third division 1-5 at home and Swindon away all put us out. Swindon away was gutting. Piccadilly station was packed that day with the soccer specials, United had been drawn at Southampton and we gave their supporters train the customary wave off. We were 2-0 down at half time and I think Buzzer was playing for them but the good news was United were also 2-0 down at Saints. Oakie pulled one back with a rocket but it wasn't enough and to make matters worse United fought back to win 3-2. Nightmare journey home but everything was worthwhile for the rewards we have today. Come on City.x.

Two notable games I went to from that era:-

Bert Trautmann's testimonial match.

Also January 1965 stood on a virtually deserted freezing scoreboard end, when we lost 2-1 to Swindon Town and Mike Summerbee scored for Swindon. We had our lowest ever attendance 8015.

I bumped into Stan Horne about five years ago, he was looking well and says he still goes to City.

Me too sat on the Kippax terracing for the Swindon game there were so few of us there, I have a copy of the testimonial programme signed by the great man himself.

The daftest thing I remember about the Swindon game was that we got there early to 'claim' our usual spot on one of the barriers, and stayed there for the whole game.
We had the choice of the whole Kippax to stand in but stayed rooted to our 'lucky spot'. :-))

Am I right in remembering that Alan Oakes took a throw in that went straight to Summerbee for his goal? I recall many groans and mild abuse!

To us older, more immature, followers, that Swindon Town match was the earlier version of York away.
I know of at least 60,000 people who will swear blind that that they were in that crowd of 8015.
I wasn't at York away, but I was there at that match.
On the subject of Swindon and Jimmy Murray, I seem to remember that it was at that cup match away where he injured his knee. He was never the same again, unfortunately.

Not sure where Derek Kevan went from City. I was at the Valley when he scored in the first match of the 63/64 season we lost 2-1. I think an ACL injury finished the career of Jimmy Murray at City, they couldn't repair that injury in those days. Smashing partnership though.
George Poyser had just taken over from Les McDowell. Kevin and Murray were scoring for fun and heading for promotion until Murray's injury. Often think if we did get promoted that season Mercer and Allison would not have arrived. How fortunes turn on small occurrences.
