Napoli post-match thread

i reckon if that game had gone on for 10 mins longer napoli would have probably scored. they really grew into the game in the second half and were unlucky not to have got at least another.
Yeah and if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.
What are you on about really? If we had put away our chances in the first half we'd been up 5 to nil. So in reality they were lucky not to get spanked.

The issue that was most forefront in my mind second half was, better strikers from better teams will punish the hesitancy in defence. The unforced mistakes playing out of danger areas needs addressed, otherwise progress the the latter stages will be beyond them.

Defensively you just aren't there yet.

How many clear cut chances did this Napoli team have? Oh they no mugs like what the scum and Scousers have got in there group.

Fucking hell, there's so e right pissing and moaning going on in here. Napoli were exactly as expected, an extremely good football team. Forget the fact that they're not full of household names. They play very good, attacking football, and are being talked about across Europe, as are we. Beating them was a great result.

If you watch the match again it appears that all our energy went into the first 30 minutes or so when the football was breathtaking. After that, and even though they pressed higher with more numbers, we did not have that one outlet from the back that enables us to turn defence into attack so quickly. Hence we kept passing it around very deep allowing mistakes to happen. KDB and Silva both looked tired in the second half and with our energy levels down the platform of working back to front was diminished. Thought it improved after Bernard and Gunny came on and Napoli also seemed to fade a little.
Having said all that this was a good win against a very good team.
Where's the final being held this year?

Doubt it. Once Danilo cane on their mega-press was nulified and we could play keep ball again. We were more likely to score at the end even though we were playing keep-ball.

Thought we managed the game out well lat 10 minutes, extra midfielders, Dannilla making 3 at the back. Looked after the ball very well. Napoli were very good too. Grew into the match but we should have been out of site

pep did a great job on man management and even the 5min injury time we control the ball its a long long season and busting your guts in games when you play saturday and midweek saturday again is hard for any squad and this champions league group is one of the hardest we have played in europe so well played pep

PS
i think we will beat them over there aswell when they press and push up we have so much speed up top even a long kick from the keeper opens them wide open

I don't understand why so many on here keep going on about how we scraped our way to a victory. We can all agree on the first 30 min. when we could have been out of sight. After that I think we slowly helped Napoli back in the game by slowing down the tempo and playing too many passes either sideways or back. Than again Napoli got one good chance and that was the penalty that they missed.
The second half started quite open and still we had the better chances. We did let have Napoli the ball too often and stopped pressing high up field, where their weakness lies. Again not many chances occured for Napoli other than a Fernandinho howler that led to a great block by Stones, and the 2nd penalty that they put away. It was more the scoreline that kept Napoli in the game and made ours look nervous. And still we had a few great chances with Sterling delivering a poor cross when Jesus was on his own in front of goal, and Silva leaving it too late to get Sane going. Napoli had one shot hardly troubeling Ederson and a counter attack that was shot wide. It was simply the one goal difference and us letting Napoli having the ball more often that made it look nervy.
So all in all I think it was a very good win versus a very good side. Probably one of the best you can play right now as Napoli would probably say the same about us.
Finally I think the game at Napoli will be pretty much the same. It'll be close but there's every chance for us to win it. Maybe even more comfortable than some on here expect.
