Forgive me but, is a drift boat one of those jet boats they use over there or is just a skiff / jon boat type thing that just well, 'drifts' along in the current.

In a narrow boat?
I did the Thames in October with three mates in a bloody great gin palace.
Great fun, especially wearing full dinner suits at night for dinner on deck.

Started in Kingston and went up stream.

Done it in four goes from its source to where it becomes tidal near that London yet never seen a narrow boat.
They have bloody wide houseboats on it though.
