Even if you don’t think he is top quality, not every player in a squad needs to be. We need more leaders with tenacity and desire. Players like Stones have ability in abundance, but ironically, he lacks the stones mentally to be a top player.

Ake is home grown and can play in different areas. He would be a welcome addition to the squad imho

I agree that you need squad players and he could fill in at left back. I expect it to be a much tighter league next season, perhaps no stand out team, and we’re evidently one team in transition. Stones does not have the touch required and his confidence, alas, is shot. Ake is slightly younger but has been through rejection and fought his way back, which as we know from de Bruyne can lead to inner strength. What we need Ake to do is not simply settle for being Laporte’s deputy but to challenge him for the jersey.

Which is what I expect him to do, should he sign.

Guess they'll be spending money on reinforcements too.

Not sure I agree with this

He does not play left back in the same way at least as Zinchenko does Zinchenko could play CDM as he does for Ukraine Ake could not Zincheko started out further forward as like CAM Ake could not do that They have completely different abilities.

Unless we change formation I do not think Ake will play left back like Zincheko does

Buying players who aren’t better than your first choice and who never will be better than your first choice never works out.

I’ve seen nothing of Ake to suggest he’s going to be better than what we have.

You’ve seen nothing to suggest Ake is better than Stones and Otamendi? Then you haven’t watched him. Or us.

Yes overall he’s been shite. How many did Delph play that season? Doesn’t make him good enough either although he was much better value for money than Stones.

We will have to wait and see how he shapes the rest of the defence before judging this. If as expected he’s Laporte deputy and we go ahead and bring in another right sided CB as a starter and natural left back too then it’s hard to think of anybody better than Ake for that role. He’ll be under no illusions about his role here and after playing every week for Bournemouth im surprised he’s interested in us, he could easily play every week elsewhere in the premier league for a very good side.

We have a free home grown slot after Delph left so this doesn’t necessarily mean the end for Stones either who plays on the opposite side. I’d say this signals the end of Otamendi. It won’t be a trophy winning signing on its own but it’s an important bit of shuffling the pack, managing the squad quota and getting the balance in defence. He’s not overly exciting but I’m happy for us to sign him, hopefully just part of the rebuild, I’m anticipating another 4
 
Bad if its our only CB signing, good if if he's one of two. Is homegrown so might give us the room to sell stones.
 
Not totally against the signing as Ake is decent cover and fills a few HG and tactical requirements but we could do with an extra defender

it’s common sense. Why we would just abandon all of Our top choices this early when we’ve been linked to two CBS for ages just to peel off Nathan Ake?

He has the prem experience factor,players coming in from abroad can find it difficult to get up to speed (rodders)and some get injured straight away,john I am assuming will go,so we have Eric senior and junior,ake and another with more experience ,that is a good set
