Nathan Ake

It's funny, but also tragic, how the same 3 or 4 comments get repeated non-stop whenever we sign a player from another PL team.

Even if Stones was better (he's clearly, not which is why our management are replacing him), why would anyone compare how good Stones is in a Pep side seeing 80% possession surrounded by world class players with Aké who they've only seen him in a relegation threatened back 4 surrounded by ancient Championship players?

Ultimately all we can say Aké has the traits Pep likes in defenders. He's very good on the ball under pressure, he has good passing range, he carries the ball out of defence, he is aggressive in the tackle (and v. good 1v1). He's a very physical defender, he's fast, he's missed 6 league games in his life through injury and at 25 with 150 league games under his belt he's both young and experienced.

Oh and he's homegrown and covers LB as well.

He’s played some time at left-back for the national team but he’s looked more comfortable playing as the left-sided defender with three at the back. He could cover Mendy, at a pinch, but if he’s the back up when Mendy’s out, then our balance on that side would tilt more to defence.

Ideal for games against the scousers and rags.

You think Ake would just be a back up for us ? Would of thought he’d have some assurances about being in the first 11 if he comes .
Be a weird move career wise For him to come and be third choice for us ,say if we were to sign Some one like kouliballe aswell.

We will have told him that we don’t have back up players at City. They are all part of the squad and will be rotated according to the needs of the team for each game.

Pep played Mascherano at centre-half and didn't do too shabbily, so Ake is a good acquisition.

(Best hair in the Premier League as well)

Mascherano was the best DM in the league, he is talented player who can fill both positions DM & CB.
Not sure about Ake.

If he signs, lets hope he will be the best CB in the League.

So does this mean Stones is now on his way ? No slight on Ake - seems decent enough - but would have liked to have seen Tosin given a chance with us. Garcia remains a very long shot. If he's not got enough pace at 19 then he's not going to have enough at 25. De Laurentis is going to rinse us for Koulibaly big time if we're serious about him.

Sometimes you just have to accept that you are being rinsed. UK holidays companies are doing it to me currently.
