NATO

In order.

Probably, but it’s been dying since the end of the Cold War and I have long advocated Europe taking back control of its defence and security as the US serves its own interests first and everyone else’s second. That is not a criticism of the US. All countries do.

NATO is not an active form of ‘American imperialism’. It is a projection of American power, but primarily a defensive one. That countries seek to join NATO is as much about the behaviour of one country in particular and its recent oppression of those countries. Russian imperialism is an actual thing that drives NATO recruitment.

The American presence in Europe has waned since the end of the Cold War. If we see a mutual interest in having a US base here, then I don’t have an issue. The UK should judge these matters in what benefits us first and foremost.

I think a lot of countries, especially those in an Eastern Europe definitely feel safer. I can guarantee that Ukrainians would definitely not only feel safer, but be safer right now.
What he said, and very well, I might add.

One of the people in the group was in the Kremlin during the chat. His aides are claiming he only had his government provided, secure device with him, but that begs the question 'why did he have a third-party communications app on his phone when they, and specifically Signal are strictly prohibited'?

That would be the same Steve Witkoff that got his job because he let Trump use his Gulfstream jet when Trump’s own plane was downed for maintenance!

UFB!

The core purpose of NATO and the nuclear deterrent remains intact. Ukraine is not as yet a member. I think sometimes we confuse NATO's mission/ purpose. Ukraine is no more an issue for NATO than crimea, Chechnya, Georgia etc. to be fair this confusion may be caused by some slight mission creep by NATO over the past couple of decades.
I'm certain that further russian expansion actually into a NATO member state would still be a red line - even for trump.
Not sure poster was referring to Ukraine but more generally a current European NATO Member being attacked by Russia. TBH, I think he is correct in that Trump would look the other way.

Having seen Russia struggle to take 20% of Ukraine for 3 years I don't see them sweeping across the remainder and then into Europe anytime soon.
