Anyone watch much of it on BT sport?

Must admit, until recently I've had no real interest in Basketball however after watching a good few games now it's growing on me big time. Really enjoy it, especially when I can afford to put a small wager on it.

Problem is, with any sport, I can't watch it as a neutral and need to be supporting someone...just a habit. I've no idea of the history of the nba franchises but just because the la Lakers and miami heat are the most popular it puts me off supporting them straight away.

Any of our US forumites or NBA fans able to shed any light on how certain franchises might be compared to football clubs over here? From the little I know, the La Clippers, Denver Nuggets. Oklahoma City Thunder and the Brooklyn Nets all have certain aspects which appeal...help a NBA newcomer out!

Boston Celtics are like Glasgow Celtic. Play in green and white with lots of Irish support...........

I've been watching it for a few years now. Though the TV companies over here take so long to sort out the rights to show it that it actually makes me lose interest. The season started in October and they only started showing games about 2 weeks ago!

Lakers are definitely the rags of the NBA. Miami are the best team, that's why everyone follows them.

I follow the Bulls. Derrick Rose is out for the entire season for the 2nd year running though so we have zero chance of getting anywhere again.

I think the Clippers are probably the closest thing to City in the NBA, in terms of the last 20 years anyway. Long time poor relations to the Lakers, butt of a lot of jokes for years. Now they have the far better talent and are in the much stronger position of the 2 to win a title.

The Indiana Pacers/GS Warriors/OKC Thunder are three teams with a lot of young talent, OKC play in sky blue so maybe they'd take your fancy.

Not sure there is a clear comparison to City in the NBA. So I won't guess.

I actually hate the NBA. And basketball. But I took the Mrs. to a game with my nephew last Spring.

He liked the food choices in the suite.

He seemed to have a good time.

With the exception of the Lakers and the Heat (most bandwagonned teams in the NBA), I think you'll find most Yanks support their local franchise. I'm an Orlando Magics fan myself. We had our high point about four years ago, making it to the finals then getting our asses handed to us by the Lakers 4-1. Since then we've lost our greatest superstar since the big Shaq, Dwight Howard, to -- you guessed it -- the Lakers.

Maybe Orlando is much like City, constant ups and downs.

The NBA has the least amount of parity out of the Big 4 American leagues. The Finals have pretty much been dominated by a select few teams for the past 25-30 years and like buckshot said, it has the worst officiating in all of sports.

The Clippers would be a good choice for a City fan. They've played second fiddle to the Lakers pretty much their entire existence, but now they have a good shot of winning the title. Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and Deandre Jordan are a lot of fun to watch.

If you're looking for a small market team to support, I'll shamelessly plug my hometown New Orleans Pelicans. They've been god-awful since Chris Paul left for L.A., but things are starting to look up. We're a couple years away from seriously contending, but we have one of the youngest, most exciting rosters in the league. Anthony Davis will be a superstar one day, Jrue Holiday is an All-Star caliber PG, and Ryan Anderson is one of the best sharpshooters in the association. The only problem is that they rarely make national TV in the States, so I'd imagine it'd be even harder to catch them on in the UK.

I'll go ahead and agree that the LA Clippers are most like City. Seem to be struggling a bit this season with a new coach and new system like we were early on. I think they will sort it out over time as they have loads of talent. Chris Paul is their David Silva and the key to their success, Blake Griffin = Negredo.

Their coach is highly rated having won a championship in recent history and comes highly recommended so there's a bit of a similarity between their coach Doc Rivers and our manager.

LA Lakers = Rags. So that is that.
Celtics= Arsenal
Spurs= Liverpool
Miami Heat= Chelsea

Played basketball when I was in school as a curriculum. When I first had ESPN back home around 15-20 years ago, I started watching NBA and followed Utah Jazz. During the times of the Jeff Hornacek-John Stockton years. Not much of a follower of NBA now but still watch the odd Jazz game.
