NC500 - Scotland road trip

Just wanted to thank everyone for the advice and tell people what an incredible place it really is. I realise now why people say you need a week really minimum to take it in. There is so many incredible places to see and stop at that you quickly throw the plans out of the window and end up stopping at some incredible beach or viewpoint every half hour. So many places i could mention but our particular favs that stand out were Applecross and the drive over Baelach Na Ba, sunset in Ullapool and the fish shack, Achmelvich beach, Strathy point, Dunnet Head and a stunning little village called Dornoch where we spent our last night. The weather sucked big time, but it didn't ruin what was a absolutely awaesome 5 days. Thanks again to everyone and for anyone considering it, do it, you honestly won't regret it.

Did you visit the beach at Dornoch mate? The limestone lochs around there are world famous for wild brown trout fishing. It is indeed gods country.

We didn't no. We only got there about 5pm on Sunday night and had a walk around the village and then a really good night in a pub called the Eagle. In the morning we got up and drove over to Tain and the Gelnmorangie distillery which again was a lovely place. I think everywhere we went we could have tripled the time we had there and still not seen it all.

Looking for a good distillery tour en-route.

Looking at doing this maybe next month. Not sure if we will spend a week & do the whole route or just do the western half as most people's highlights seem to be mostly on this part of the route.

Just planning our drive up to Ullapool and incorporating Applecross in so we can do the drive over Belach Na Ba.
Just finishing this. Last day in Contin in Coul and did the Bealach na Ba yesterday. It was hairy as it was misty and raining so took the coastal route back which was a lovely drive. Stayed in Cromarty, Dornoch, Wick, Bettyhill and Ullapool and took at 100 mile detour to do the pass.

All top places and hotels except Wick which I'd avoid. Thanks to @willipp for his OP which got me onto this. Off to Stirling today. Be strange to be back in a city.

You should try cycling it in the wet , a good test of your brakes on the downhill, bit chilly when it's sleeting at the top mind.

Saw a few cycling it on the uphill strech. Touring with the panniers.

I'm going to look on Strava to see which maniac has the KOM :)
