Nedum Onuoha is a decent player but he's no where near good enough to be a starter at a top 5 club. He's sold-ish defensively, but awful on the ball and with his overall movement when going forward. If we was sold we wouldn't miss him and he'll never be anything special. I'd like to keep him as a squad player though, since he can slot in against the weaker sides and he's a local lad and all that.
I've read some sh*te on these pages!! "Sold-ish"?? WTF does that mean, exactly? His name is Nedum, not Micah!! If ever you've sen him 'sold', it's because he's come in from the cold and is getting his rusty legs back into gear!
Neds is probably the only defender (when he's had a run) that DOESN'T get 'sold' by anybody! He seems to be the only one that does his homework on players's styles and stronger feet as he always contains the opposition without having to tug shirts or dive in! He forces them out out their comfort zone and leaves no door open to be gone through, unlike players like Bridge and Touré.
When was the last time you saw him do a 'Kompany',i.e., slip whilst trying to anticipate? When was the last time you ever saw him do a 'Richards', i.e., pull the opponent's shirt (like a muppet) in the pen area?
Sure, he doesn't do crosses nor is a Lothar Matthaus, in striding out of postion to take decisive control of the game, cos that would be attempting the 'square peg, round hole' scenario.
No, he's a stalwart, steadfast CB who wants to be the best he can be. Not a Jack of all trades and Master of none. Someone once said, on this forum that in order to survive you have to be useful in more than one position. Why? Terry and Wio are regarded as the best England pairing for the national team in a long time and are respective captains of their clubs. So, what's wrong with that picture?
Yes, he's been injured, which has played a part in hid development/ career at his Beloved club and has also obscured the thinking of his managers. But, have some fooking faith, City. Clubs have done so with Gerrard, King etc., because they saw through what was, to what could be, to what is. The kid is MORE than a squad player, no doubt.
I've seen some mistakes at City, but this must surely rank highly, if he's sold on!
