Needs for Summer

I love all the Fifa 09 picks on these threads - its so obvious that absolutely no one has watched a Standard Liege game or followed the Belgian league this season, yet they pluck a player out, and say we should go for him, it tickles me. I'm pretty good on world players, but some of the names banded around on here mean jack shit to 99% of punters. :-)

The proof is actually all there. Both Witsel and Defour have won the Belgian Golden Boot the past two years and both were 19 when they won it. Onyewu has been a main stay on their team since 2004 and deserves another shot as 11 games at Newcastle shouldn't determine someones entire career. He fits the EPL mold and deserves another shot because he is a solid defender. I will admit I don't know as much about Marcos Camozzato but have only heard good things. I will also admit that I know nothing about Mbokani so that is why I didn't say anything about him but I trust in others words that he is solid. What makes your opinion accurate?

Dear TonyGrealishstache,

I follow the Jupiler leaugue and the Eredivisie every year. I have watched Standard games against LFC, everton, Sevilla, Sampdoria, stuttgart and Braga + I have watched standard- Charleroi (1-2) at Sclessin the stadium of standard.
I know what I'am talking about when I say Mbokani is a very good striker and much better then Fuller

In my opinion Witsel didn't deserve the Golden Boot. In my eyes Defour deserved that price or maybe Mbokani, Jovanovic or Wesley Sonck (striker, Fc Brugge).

Oneywu is a very strong defender, (vidic type).
Camozzata had a very good season, RB with good technique (brazilian RB type)
Mbokani is a very strong congolian striker, scores easily.
His biggest problem is his mentality. When you say 5 o'clock he's there at 6.

This funny vid is typical Mbokani

Real City, although I don't agree with your specific players (We all have our opinions) I think your reasoning is spot on, we need a bunch of players to get us to top 6, more to top, 4 and THEN some world class players to win the league!

Fans expectations are too high at the moment ( I hope i'm wrong on this point!!) But the club hasn't helped itself at all with the stupid Kaka bid! It just unsettled everyone and undermined the manger.

For what it's worth would like to see players with some premier league experience as it takes players a while to settle, possibly Agger or Hangeland at centre half, Gareth Barry left mid ( don't think he'd come but he started at left back so could cover that position) and I do like Santa Cruz but he seems too injury prone!

I respect your opinions completely. That is a problem with many forums, the silly banter about people's personal opinions.

:-)

That is what excites me about Onyewu. He is a no nonsense strong centre back who wins any ball in his area. Yes he had a bad 11 games at Newcastle but come on, Newcastle being thrown in mid season and obviously he was doing something right to be playing. Vidic, as much as I hate to say it, is world class and very strong in the back and Onyewu plays the same game as him. Him and Kompany would make for a huge back line that would win a ton of headers.
