What do they want 170 quid for? Go out and stand the fence back up.

2x concrete posts
1x base panel

i suppose the rest is labour

What are your legal obligations according to them? Is there a law that states you must have a fence around your property? ie: you have a pool in your backyard? I built a six foot tall fence, 80' long around my backyard by hand, on my own without asking my neighbor for a single penny. Tell them to stay the fuck away from your letterbox.

Re: neighbour dispute advice

Seriously now, hand write 'fuck off' on the note. You could also let him know that you're happy with the fence as it is. If he wants the fence fixing, then let him do it, but just tell him that you don't have an issue with it being down as you think it's more 'neighbourly'.

Re: neighbour dispute advice

Do they have an attractive daughter/grand-daughter? If so, do the horizontal tango, video it on your phone and post it on Twatter/P***H**/L******T***, not forgetting to post a link on here of course. For the purose of clarifying the depth of the dispute, you understand.

Depends. At our property at home, we are responsible for maintaining the fence on the left as I look down my garden from the house. The neighbors are responsible for maintaining the fence on their left (our right) I think it states it on the deeds of the house.

So check the deeds to your house. If indeed you are only responsible for the fence only on the one side of your house and they are on the other side,, then you are under no obligation to pay what they are demanding for this exact reason, it is their responsibility, not yours. By the sounds of it, if you are the end house with the fence adjacent to the road, it would make sense that you are responsible for that fence only. (Just my opinion/assumption)

thanks KP someone was on about this today, so i take it in my case if i'm stood on the back step of our house looking down the garden the fence to my left 'the big one' i maintain myself (i'm a corner house) is ours, to the right would be there's
That is what I would assume. I think it is normally the left fence, but this is not always the case. Like I say, check the deeds of your house. Or if they are speaking about 'legal obligations' ask them to prove this by showing the deeds to their house, although I imagine this may not be the best idea as you dont want to cause further conflict. They sound like the type of people who would call the police and accused you of harrassment if you asked to see the deeds to their house

Re: neighbour dispute advice

I doubt there is an Act of Parliament or even a local bye-law which insists that there must be a fence between your properties.

Just tell him that if he wants a fence he can pay for it.

Bang on the money.

Re: neighbour dispute advice

If anything at all you are only responsible for maintaining a boundary. This only needs to be one strand of wire.

Re: neighbour dispute advice

Won't the Manchester Citizens Advice Bureau offer support for shit like this?

Surely they have an obligation to provide you with the quotes they got before the work was done? Surely if it's a shared fence panel they should have consulted you before getting work done anyway?

They sound like proper bell ends so I wouldn't even stoop to their level by writing a note, just go round to their house and have it out.
