There's people that do it as deliberate lifestyle choice or because of cost of rent etc. There's people that just have a caravan without a car, on the side of the road around Bristol.
There's also people that do actually wash and don't shit in fields that make money from posting "van life" content on YouTube on social media.

The neighbour got evicted about a year later, non payment of rent and utility bills.
The place was trashed inside. The council fumigated the place 3 days solid getting rid of the stink of cigarettes.
