Neil Young - 17th February 1944 - 3rd February 2011

He came to the Prestwich & Whitefield branch a few times
& Took the juniors for a training session a couple of times in St Mary's Park

Back in the day when I got my driving licence, my mother used to send me to a farm shop in Handforth to buy potatoes. Neil lived nearby and I saw him there once.

He was one of the most elegant players in the game back then.

Who remembers a tribal gathering we had about 25 years ago at Maine Road? Neil came along to the Rusholme curry house that evening and graced us with his presence.
He was crucial in the title winning year of 67/68. Classy player in a classy but very tough team.

I always remember meeting Neil Young when i lived in Bramhall, North park rd .
I was practising my golf swing in my back garden when this head popped over my back fence to see what was going on lol!.
It was nelly young coaching local school kids on the adjacent school field .
We had a chat about City & football in general .
Nice guy who had a sweet left foot in his hey day.

Always seemed odd to me that this great player was sold to PNE (no disrespect intended) at the age of 28, only 2 1/2 years after winning the Cup for us. I know he was out of favour with Allison in 71-72 but come on, Preston ?

I met him in the Trafford Centre at a City event at WHSmiths many years ago - very approachable guy, I just shook his hand and said hello nice to meet you.
