Just heard from Alex Channon that Neil has terminal cancer and with treatment may have 6-12 months to live and his left leg may have to be amputated.Just awful to hear the very sad news.He never did get the testimonial he deserved.
Met him once about a year or two ago when he gave the prizes out at the PL 5 a side.Such a great guy and will be sadly missed.

Only just looked at this thread now. Very sad news. My auntie died of lung cancer just over a year ago - wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Too young to have seen him play, but there's no doubting his contribution to the best era in our history. Top scorer in the promotion season under Mercer and Allison, and in the league championship season. Notched the winner in the FA Cup final and scored a goal and won a penalty in the ECWC final. Definitely one of our legends, and shamefully screwed over by the old regime at the club.

I just wish him all the best and hope that his pain and suffering in these last few months can be reduced to the maximum degree possible.

The most vivid memories I have of City, over the last fifty odd years, includes Neil Young and David Wagstaffe. I was but a lad, and thought he was bloody marvellous. What a left foot! Stick in there, Neil lad!

My dad played with both of the above throughout his youth and speaks in glowing terms about their ability.

I can only echo that I hope the illness treats Neil kindly in the months ahead.

Horrible news, a true legend and a real gentleman. He used to coach a mate of mine years ago at primary school and like he's just texted me ''Top man, he loved his golf, :(''

This is such sad news.

I hope he realises how much City fans of a certain age value him and how they consider him to be an integral part of that era.

Good luck Neil x
