my Sony Vaio screen broke the other day, anyone know what to do?
the screen can be replaced easy, if it was on(when smashed) it may have shorted the inverter board under the monitor.

the screen you can get on the cheap 2nd hand, the inverter should be less than a tenner.

check you tube for vids to help... watch a few and follow the lead ....DIY is easy!

same to the OP !!!

Looks like this is their best option.
Should imagine his Dad will be able to fix it no probs if they can buy a new screen from somewhere.

I fix them for a side job that I do whilst I am at Uni. If you want me to give you a quote on fixing it then PM me, I do very reasonable prices, a lot better priced than any shop.

Ok thanks. Next door neighbours are watching this thread so if they want to know a price from you I'll let you know. Cheers.

the hardest thing about ripping off the plastic cover over the monitor is damaging the clips inside, but being brutal is the norm. prize the edges and pop the clips individually until done, it s reverse engineering with screws etc. there should be no more than 4 connections or so, so it is straight forward.

if they bring the pc to a tech store which sells 2nd hand parts to get the right monitor. just tell them you know how to do it from there.

I got a 15 inch lcd (i think it is lcd that has no backlight) fitted for £45 last week.

It was an on the side job from a shop techie i know. pm if you want me to have a word.
