Netflix: Squid game

The dubbing was pretty bad. I hated the accents, and apparently they rewrote it heavily for the American market, dumbed it down badly in my opinion.

(First line of dialogue is where his mum drops the money on the dinner table.

The original just says, 'What's this? Is it for me?'

The dubbed version says 'Is this my daily allowance or what? .

The first one is so much better IMHO, because between that first and second question, he goes from innocent, curious, safe and sound, being looked after by someone who knows him and his situation, to someone giving into their greed - a tiny gamble on it being for him that goes wrong, leaves him ashamed, which he then follows up with another gamble to see if he can find the card, another gamble on the pin, until he is totally and utterly ruined by his dopamine driven behaviour)

Which brings us to the issue - there are two sets of English subtitles. One is the CC subs, which are the subs generated automatically for the hard of hearing - these are taken word for word from the dub.

The other ones are the translation of the Korean audio, as you would normally expect for a foreign movie or series. Probably worth it for most people to make sure you watch it with these.

Watched the last episode last night I think. After what I heard about how the season finale was weak and terrible and destroyed the whole story, I was expecting something really anticlimactic, well, not even that, but something ridiculous or something. Anyway the last episode was fine by me. There was an allegory in there I reckon

It's very watchable. gets you hooked very easily and has an interesting ideas. however after watching it, it's really not that good, has so many gaping plot holes that are just ignored entirely.

One that really annoyed me, keeping it spoiler free, they play a game in groups of 10, half survive yet come the next game there's nowhere near the amount there should be and there's no explaination for it at all. There's worse ones but don't want to go into spoiler territory. Episode with marbles was a complete chore to get through and ending was shite.

Would watch a second season but hearing what the writer has said about where he might take it, I suspect it would disappoint.

Think you've completely summarised my thoughts on it; easily bingeable but not great, I give it a 7/10 on the basis that it was an easy watch.

The marble game is completely flawed. I refuse to believe no matter how desperate they were that they wouldn't have voted to stop the game there. The husband and wife would have definitely brought it to a vote.
