Never meet your heroes.....

The best thing about the boo was thinking about the doner kebab at the end of the night. Badly packed of course.
Not necessarily, I lived opposite the student nurses dorm on Rosberry street, my better half is a member of this forum, if you don’t hear from me again, it was fun whilst it lasted, unfortunately that’s the last thing she said to me

Ah so the G&D was your local then? I lived near the next junction down for a couple of years, the one outside the hospital with the traffic lights next to the handily placed funeral directors.
Oh aye, some rum’uns in the Grove alright. Not your better half of course.

many years ago and I mean many years ago, city came to play rovers in a pre- season night game city won 2-0 and a couple of mates and I waited for the lads to come out and get on the bus, must of been 10-00 pm when they came out, and I got a couple of players names, but I thought fuck that and got on the bus joe mercer was sat at the front[ told you it was years ago] and I asked if I could get some more names and he said but hurry up, so I got most team, lee bell book and so on, and every1 had a quick word with me

Never liked the G&D I’d go in the woodsmans or the three tun’s but the Grove early doors just for the nutters

In the early 80s me and my mate ran on the pitch at the Real Old Trafford after Lancashire had won a Sunday League game. My mates favourite player was Neil Fairbrother, so we went up to him. My mate was about to say “Well played”, but before he got words out, Fairbrother yelled at him “Get off the fuckin’ pitch”!
My dad also had a cricket-related let-down when we met an utterly wasted Basil D’Olivera at New Road the day Wasim Akram single-handedly won the (Natwest?) quarter final game for us. The rate and graphic-ness of Dolly’s swearing would’ve made Jerry Sadowitz blush.

Yeah, actually I think I recall the G&D burning down in an unfortunate fire, though I could be mistaken. Spent most of my time further down, between the Grapes and the Bull.
