Neville Southall interview

The comments on Sterling and Morgan being a cock shouldn’t detract from the rest of the interview, partisan as we are. The guy seems to be completely fantastic, and the way he’s using his profile to give a platform to the people he’s giving it to deserves a proper doffing of cap. Morgan is a cock btw,

Exactly. There's PR teams everywhere making sure big football associations and clubs pay lip service to the latest cause. Managers wearing badges about respect, then villifying officials after the game if their team has lost. All PR bullshit.

What I like most about him is that he's willing to admit he doesn't know enough about some things and asks people to help him understand them. Not nearly enough of that going on, everyone has to act like they know everything about everything. Top bloke

Jeeez he should still play in goals, he'd only leave about 1 foot of net to shoot into.

Nice interview, he's one of those guys doing good things the press dont like to usually report on.

Exactly, he clearly goes into these conversations with an open mind, prepared to learn things rather than wanting to tell people what they should be doing.

Great interview - this paragraph made me laugh out loud
Is Southall looking forward to the World Cup? “I am – but it’s in the wrong country. Why would you go to a country where human rights are shit? Where homophobia is horrendous. England should have sent the LGBT team to represent them. Fuck Putin. ‘Here’s our gay team. What are you going to do now?’ Or they should send an all black team, just to annoy Putin.”

I remember him playing for my home team club Winsford United at the start of his career, where he was getting rave revues.
Dave Tadge Connor (ex City lad) was the Manager at Bury at the time and he came to watch him few times and then Winsford made some wonderful and much needed revenue.I am almost certain we sold him for about £20K but with an add on clause for something like 25% should he ever get sold.
Role on a couple of years later and Everton came in for him and once again Winsford ended up with a hell of lot of cash from his move.
Saw him doing a Sportsmans Evening at Crewe Alex many years later and he was a very funny guy.
