New CL Format Thoughts | After GW2 (pg13) | GW3 (pg33)

I'm actually starting to think that an early exit may not be a bad thing this year. We are not going to win it. An early exit might deprive us of some prize money but this is a squad that currently cannot cope with midweek football. Making sure we're in it next year with a stronger squad is the priority, and that comes through a strong finish to the league campaign. Missing out on CL prize money this season can be offset by prize money from finishing higher up the league table. Our injury situation needs to be eased and many lads just look spent.

Obviously I'd like to be in it for as long as possible, but I can certainly see the benefits to an early exit on this occasion.

The best team doesn't always win this and we have lost to teams worse than us previously. Whilst we're in it, we have a chance to win it.

We have charges pending which could prevent our inclusion next year regardless. I don't like the Tottenham approach of let's get ourselves eliminated so that we can concentrate on qualifying for the thing we're trying to get eliminated from next year.

Whilst we could lose both remaining games, we might not and one point should be sufficient to get us through to the next round. There is a small chance we go through without getting another point as well.

That is all true and, of course, we should not be aiming for the exit. But this City team is currently so far off the pace that it won't feel like an opportunity missed if we do go out. In previous years, we've blown great opportunities.

No chance we win this or progress through the knockouts on this form, it's dreadful and doesn't look like improving any time soon sadly.

It's vital we progress for several important reasons...the money and trying to play ourselves back into some semblance of form, plus, we need to show players that we are still a very attractive proposition and capable of challenging for the top trophies.
Our complacent attitude began from the 1st match, wearing that stupid kit against Inter and a half-arsed display to boot, which has continued on. The extra "group" games have bred arrogance in the club, thinking it gives us more room for error and allowing us to not go 100% and still stroll through the knock out stages.
We are unlikely to get anything from PSG in Paris (on current form) as they are desperate for points too which will make the last match (against another club with a chance of qualifying) another nervy night.
For me, the rot started with that utterly dismal and amateurish night in Lisbon.

Not on this form agreed, but I don't accept this will continue for long. I'm not seeing an exceptional team in Europe this season. Liverpool have been efficient but are not infallible.

A couple of new faces in January and everything turns around. Don't think we'll get back to the likes of 2023 treble winning form, but I don't think we would need to.

I don't think it will continue either. It's worrying to think it will though I must admit. The faint hopes of a title challenge were still flickering on 80 mins yesterday but that's surely gone now. By hook or by crook we need to get some wins under our belt and put this horror run behind us. It's starting to drag everyone down a bit now.
