New CL Format Thoughts | After GW2 (pg13) | GW3 (pg33)

And as it stands we play Atletico don't we?

Literally couldn't be much worse. Alvarez turning into Maradona against us and probably end up with more injuries.

Genuinely, when do we think about just throwing it and try to save the prem season.
I understood it like:

Places 9-10 will play vs. places 23-24, 11-12 vs. 21-22, 13-14 vs. 19-20. 15-16 vs. 17-18, but there is a draw.

As it stands it's us paired with Celtic v Atletico paired with AC Milan.
It says that seeding comes into play in the 9 to24 knockout round.
Seems a little unfair but implies that the higher "seeded" team of Athletico and AC would play the lower "seeded" team of us and Celtic.
So its not really a draw
Not sure if I am understanding this correctly.

That might be right.

To me it makes sense that 9th v 24th, 10th v 23rd and so on.

Ultimately I think it has little difference. Madrid and City are probably going to be in the lower half of the seeds but could have got their shit together by February.

See that was the best thing about the 4 team group. Anything could happen and it did. I've Rangers friends up here who still shudder at the 2009 CL campaign, so close for the Romanians and lets not forget APOEL from our bow in the competition 2011/12 as well. I just don't feel this new format at all. No pressure after a draw at home with Inter, no fear about the return fixture, plenty of games to turn it around. Maybe it will liven up for me com match day 6.
Well I feel the pressure now and its has definitely livened up for me :-(

There is a draw for the last 16 and it is seeded. The top 8 from the League table will play the play off winners. In the unlikely event we get through the play off we’ll be playing away in the 2nd leg in the last 16.

Its the draw for the 9 to 24 we are querying
It appears that the team with the best coefficient of the 9th and 10th placed team plays the the team with the worst coefficient of the 23rd and 24 th team and so on for the remaining teams.
Teams are paired 9 and 10 together, 11 and 12 together etc.
e.g. If paired with Celtic we could get a more favourable draw even if we finished one place behind them

There isn’t a draw. We get automatically paired with a team based on final league position. The position we finish 9-16 or 17-24 also determines whether you’re home or away in the first or second leg. The teams that finish higher get the away leg first.

You are not correct
Draw might not be the right word but we will end up having a team that we will be paired with that finishes beside us in the table and both teams will be matched up against another 2 teams.
The team with the highest coefficient in our pairing plays the team with the lowest coefficient in the other pairing.

Team in 9th will play against one of either 23 / 24, not necessarily 24
Team in 11th will play against one of 21 or 22

Just copied this from the official uefa champions league website.

From the knockout phase play-offs onwards the tournament is a bracket. The teams that finish the league phase between ninth and 16th will be seeded for the first draw for the knockout phase, and will face a team placed 17th to 24th. The seeded team will, in principle, play the return leg at home.

Potential opponents are also pre-defined by pairings of teams' final league positions. For example, teams finishing ninth and tenth will face the sides that ended 23rd or 24th; teams finishing 11th or 12th will be drawn against either the 21st or 22nd-placed sides and so on.

The eight clubs that prevail in the knockout phase play-offs progress to the round of 16
