New CL Format Thoughts

I think by accident they have stumbled on a format that has worked really well. They changed it for financial reasons obviously and more money so they didn't do it out of the love of the game but I think it has worked well. The team that walked the league phase knocked out the next wrong, Bayern, City, Real Madrid and PSG having to qualify after the league phases, cracking knockout games and now you will either have a brand new winner of the competition or a team that hasn't won it in 15 years and only 3 times ever. If it continues this way who knows, we can only comment on what we have seen so far and I think it has been great.

Whilst the two games between Barcelona and Inter were the best I've seen in Europe for a long time, they've little to do with the format and could have been the semi-finalists under the old format.

I still disagree with the league format - it's ridiculous that you have a league where you don't get to play everyone, let alone home and away. It's just a money making exercise to create both more games and more games between the top teams, supposedly without the jeopardy of them going out.

I've enjoyed the new format this season apart from us not doing well, and appreciate the change. I've never been fully onboard with this competition and thought the old format was a bit stale, but this season has made me more hungry for it now, seeing the level of these semi finals and especially PSG, Inter and Barca and wanting us to be back at the top level being part of this and having intense matches.

we need to play multiple levels above what we did this season in terms of energy. we fucking looked tired in some games in November already...

serious legs need to be signed with firepower and ability to press all game ad run back too. lets hope this season wakes our CEO, DoF and Pep up.

Current format is a a bit of lottery with no home/away balance.

I must admit the counter-factual of us not beating Inter is increasingly terrifying and I need to stop contemplating it. Watching it back is still nerve-wracking. Such a difficult competition to win. The Treble is just an unbelievable achievement, the enormity of which continues to sink in.

The main things that piss me off are that the champions of the top leagues no longer avoid pot one opponents (not a problem next season if we get top five) and the Thursday League winners getting in, though that has been a problem for a while.

Why do you think no home/away balance?

Isn't it Ia bit of a lottery as to who you play at home and who you play away?

Too many games adding to more competitions and too much football for players and fans.

There will be a collapse before a return to sanity.

Yeah, extra games is the only real downside. I think the rest of the changes have been excellent. The group stages had become very stale, mainly because of TV and country restrictions.
