New CL Format Thoughts

Once clubs like RM and Bayern, the powerhouses of European football, once they start getting all their difficult ties at home and the easier games away (in a draw that is made in secret because its too complicated for a humans to do it) Then I'll pass more complete judgement.

For now though it seems good.

We had one of the hardest away draws! You can finish 5th get champs league for the first time get most of the hardest games at home then maybe just 1 hard game away and get to the 1/4 finals you rarely if ever did in the other format!

Yes am jealous because if this format was around 12 years ago or more when we got into it for the first time we would probably won it..

The new format shouldn't matter if you're good enough to win it, A full-strength City team would be taking it in their stride, the other teams fear playing us home or away. last season, we hit a wall and injuries to key players cost us big time.

or when away goals counted
or when winners of the prem went into pot one

Next season for the teams we draw again in the League phase, which will happen a few times given the format,
the Home advantage should be a reversal of the previous seasons draw especially for the top 1/2 Pot opponents.

Example
PSG and/or Juve have to play at the Etihad
We go to the San Siro for Inter

Rags or spurs to be in pot 1 next year
Not sure they will be. Pretty sure it's done on the clubs standing in the coefficents.
rags are 11th and Spuds are 29th, so rags might sneak in depending on how many coefficient points the winner gets

Edit: and of course, who out of the top 10 coefficent clubs qualify

Pots are irrelevant as each team plays two from each pot.
If it isn't confusing enough

• The three English clubs in Pot 1 must play six matches against teams from Pot 1, but they cannot play each other.
• This gives the six non-English teams in Pot 1 six games vs. English teams.
• Arsenal must then be drawn against two teams from Pot 1. They cannot play English teams. This makes the total games vs. English clubs eight.
• Spurs must then be drawn against two teams from Pot 1. They cannot play English teams. This makes the total games vs. English clubs 10.
• Newcastle must then be drawn against two teams from Pot 1. They cannot play English teams. This makes the total games vs. English clubs 12.
• This guarantees the six non-English teams in Pot 1 play 12 games, two each, vs. English teams.

While UEFA has yet to fully confirm the draw conditions for the 2025-26 season, this is the only way they could keep to the usual regulations.

If Arsenal had also been in Pot 1, making it four English clubs, UEFA would have had to modify its draw conditions and allow English clubs to play one game against each other in the league phase.

The draw for the group stage takes place on Thursday, Aug. 28.

Last season UEFA said teams from the same country could play each other in the league stage if they were from nations with five teams in the CL or if they were from four-team nations and the draw would be fucked up if they couldn't play each other.
With six English teams they will allow a couple of all English games in the mini-league if it gets too messy to prevent it.
