New Dr Who

Like the new doctor and assistant but it's the stories for me that ruining it! Want it more serious and dark!

Serious would do for me.

As you say, the two leads are quite fun, and that's about all the good.

Space Babies:
utter tosh, with the sudden urge to explain everything.
Apart from screaming, it was a very thin story. A very strange choice for season opener as the Doctor did about one thing of note.
Also "I'm the only one like me"? Sorry, Mr Tennant, under 6 months and you're airbrushed from history.

Devil's Chord:
acting good, openly states it's basically a re-tread of the Giggle, and just like the original there is so so much dead time because there is no story. 5 mins and 3 mins at the end of dead time.
Did the Doctor do anything of note to the story (pun intended) at any point?

The Christmas episode was 10 mins of Shaft, 5 mins of Inspector Gadget and 35 mins of Grimm.
These two are almost 100% Grimm.

Davies clearly wanted to make a telefantasy show and appears to have hijacked Dr Who to make one.

It is an extremely nerdy TV show that, like most nerd culture in the post Big Bang Theory world, became a heavily controlled and marketed by a corporation desperate for a hit in its Worldwide division.

These committees only know how to throw out one type of show and this is it:

1. Tokenist diversity. Have an Asian, a woman, a Black, a trans, a gay or lesbian or a queer. Do absolutely nothing of value with them or their identities apart from the odd throw away line acknowledging their diversity and how rough it is. Do not make Asianness a central part of their character unless it is totally Asian like a bad Goodness Gracious Me sketch. Hire Black women and remove all blackness from their character so they are white middle class well maintained women who happen to have Black skin.

2. Reinvent history to be the way that is convenient for a 2020s TV show and not the way it was. This includes internal history such as lore or characters. Again, in no way do you approach or challenge difficult situations. Ignore racism, ignore massive injustices, ignore culture of rape and fear and brutality. Do however make heavy handed social commentary that is attempting to be relevant to today in the worst way.

3. The writer must have an insert character. The writer and the writing committee must have a way to preach their utopian progressive unsubtle platitudes to the audience. Again, there can't be any depth or nuance to this nor can the audience be trusted to get it without big neon signs and flashing arrows saying THE POINT. Unless the writer is conservative and then this inappropriate.

4. You must never bow to the cult fans. Instead you should mock and deride them for being cult fans of the show that you created. "Fan service" is done by referencing things that happened in the past via offhand comments that will confused the fuck out of the rest of the audience. Appeal directly to a global social media market. Create clippable moments, gifable lines, get your hashtags out for the lads. Everything has to be an action show, especially shows that are not action shows. Get big flashy lasers firing at things. Make lots of noise. Pretend you're making a show that will keep the attention of a 6 month year old baby.

5. Flanderise every aspect of the show. Light entertainment has to be insultingly stupid or hilariously melodramatic. Don't tell small stories with interesting payoffs. The entire world has to be at stake every time and then the entire solar system then entire galaxy then entire universe then the multiverse then spacetime itself. Remember when the Doctor was an anonymous traveller randomly walking around Aztec cities who helped out due to a moral courage? Now he has to be literally God. An all powerful entity who is feared and revered by every culture in the Universe and is the most important person who has ever lived. Everybody has to be a super genius. Those who are not have to be Biblically stupid.

6. Have zero confidence in your own show. Constantly explain the plot and mechanics over and over again because you don't trust the audience will follow the show. Make whiplash changes to tone within a single doctors run because your Instagram post only got 300k likes. Make the Doctor's character and motivations change on a near weekly basis.
Blimey I just thought it was Crap. :-)

It’s a childrens / family Saturday evening light entertainment show. Fairly enjoyable bit of fun, much better than the old Ken Dodd days. Do people watch just so they can over analyse over think it and come onto bluemoon and moan about It?
Doddy would have been an excellent choice as the doctor nowadays, running round with his tickling stick

I'm not mad at this, at all.

There you go

A proper return to decent writing
good compact sci-fi story
call backs that don't seem like fan service
both leads given a script to work with.
and any nod to social comentary just an age old dig at capitalism and the church, rather than preaching to us.
actually something like the pre chibnal shitfest.

It is a shame Moffat never got to write Whittaker a story instead of the gibberish she was given

Also Ruby Sunday's replacement was in it.
