Marwood has been a sort of, nudge-nudge, wink-wink DoF but he really isn't. TB is the real deal and has walked the walk at Barca. It's interesting that the club has publicly used the Director of Football title for the first time. It will be his view on what Mancini is doing right and wrong that will be interesting. It's possible he can help Mancini achieve success in the CL but it's also possible Mancini will decide he doesn't need input from TB, thank you very much.
Usually the director of football decides who he believes the players the club should sign, Mancini will only have a certain input! This is why there is a big question of director of football roles - managers can sometimes hate it because there power diminishes a lot!
TB will have his own vision for the club, and the players who he believes will revolutionize the squad will be top of the transfer list, he may also feel some players should be sold!
I was going to mention that example actually, I personally believe there will be some interesting moments between Mancini and the board over the next 6-12 months, Mancini will want full power but now we have a director of football, Roberto could find his job becoming ever more frustrating! He won't want to be dictated to.
