Looks like we now have a flat rate which we will pay to the council, could this be part of the masterplan to extend the stadium and retain more income rather than it based on a sliding scale on attendances.
Good find. Agree this suggests City planning for an expanded ground
i think it could be more to the fact that 99.9% of all councils are skint and manchester council have obviously seen a good opportunity to cream a pile of cash from us.....

Thats precisely what it is, the same reason they will never just sell us the ground.

Manchester City Council are one of the most financially astute councils in the country.

The rake money in from City, the Airport, building in Spinningfields and other office buildings in the City centre.
The co-own a building company with Morrison called Manchester working.
Many of the departments are profit centres raking in more money from Manchester businesses.

All this helps let have MCC have a no redundancy policy even though 100's are being moved into redeployment (Mpeople) just waiting for another job to become available.
What other company could afford to do this.
Even Toyota and Honda have made people redundant.

Clearly they won't just sell us the ground, it's public property after all, but a deal could be made if it could be argued that it is in the public interest. For example we get the ground but it's environs are re-developed and some social aspect (sports facility's maybee ??) is included in the development.

From MCFC annual report page 24

New East Manchester Joint
Development Board
n In March 2010, MCFC, Manchester City Council
and New East Manchester (NEM) signed a
formal agreement to work together to create
a transformation plan for East Manchester,
focused on the area around the City of
Manchester Stadium.
n A Joint Development Board (JDB) has been
formed between the three parties, which will
combine Manchester City Council and NEM’s
land ownership and experience in community
regeneration with MCFC’s commercial
relationships and history of investment in the
Club’s development.
n The combined interests of the land held by the
three parties represents a total of around 200
acres, including the existing SportCity campus
and 46 acres of land in Openshaw West owned
by Manchester City Football Club. The Club has
confirmed that it is its intention that over time,
the potential development of this land would
form part of its contribution to the regeneration
of East Manchester.
n The agreement creates the opportunity for
a long-term partnership between MCFC,
Manchester City Council and NEM to develop
their mutual ambitions for the commercial
development of the area to deliver long lasting
economic and community growth to the East
Manchester area.

I don't see the point in an expansion...we can't even fill the ground at the moment...what's the point in extending and having thousands of empty seats?
If we were to go on and win the premiership and the chumps league then have loads trying to get tickets fair enough...but Ifor one would rather have a full stadium every week rather than be rattling in one with all the empties.
Suggest you do your homework

We are one of only 5 clubs in the Premier League to have sold out all our season tickets, its capped at 36,000 where if we had a 60k capacity there will 11,000 more available.

And the problem with European matches is that they are just too expensive on their own. 35,000 for a Europa League is very respectable if you ask me. Juventus are apparently the best supported club in Italy but only sold 10,000 tickets for their lech match at home.

And regardless of it we don't sell out all our tickets, many still forget we have the 3rd highest attendance in the league.

The £3m flat rate suggests stadium expansion is definitely on the cards.
