very much a wordpress dynamic style site, will be very easy for them to maintain, but for supporters, its very uninteresting.

clear errors that need fixing and the lack of blue, i find disturbing.

Well something has improved then. I hardly go on the current site execept for the above so I am not bothered about the new site as long as I can find that info easily.

White background will be easier on the eyes. The current site is really hard to read for very long.

The twitter feed needs to take up less space.

Do not like. Twatter feed looks shit and (as is the case with Twatter) is composed mainly of shit. Left hand side is very 'tile' looking if you get what I mean.

I can understand where they've gone with the lighter site as it's easier on the eyes for longer periods.
Can't comment on the desktop view but the Mobile beta works well for me (android/chrome)

I design websites and I like the clean look of this one. I am biased though because I am easily bored by a sustained design. In the case of my work, I usually enjoy the design process and hate them after they get published.

The beta site is ok, just needs the bbc yellow changed to sky blue.
