New striker?

How many goals have those 4 attacking players scored between them this season? You're right, we are top of the league, at the moment, and look in good form. For that reason, I'd say we possibly do not need a short term loan or free transfer until the end of the season. However, looking further ahead, we surely need a long term striker sooner rather than later.
I know people like to put their fingers in their ears at the mention of Aguero leaving, and I am aware that Jesus 'works hard' but surely to god we need a natural finisher that can instinctively finish chances!

aguero time is up and best he can be is a bit part striker next season ? city will defo sign a striker in the summer if not 2 ?. this season pep has fooled the others with a plan around a false 9 or a rotating front 3 even phil foden played up front. but the others will work it out and learn to stop us. so pep will have to go back to a new plan and maybe having a 3 striker system next season or go for a basic 4.4.2

i have said it before football and systems are for the best manager to win games and not really the players
yes the best players win games but its the system the manager set that the other team hate playing against
and your better players are used around what the manager thinks will hurt the others

pep system's are so hard to read and like the game vs sheff utd you looked at it on paper and looked like walker and zinchenko was playing at wingbacks ? but how wrong was we ? back 3 and walker playing in the 3 with laporte and dias and zinchenko was a winger

but 100% pep is having a new striker in the summer and a top draw striker

Big risk city not bringing in a striker even if on loan. Aguero will take weeks to get match fit & may get injured again, we can not rely on Jesus & sterling is far from his best.

We are probably in one of the best positions to win the league, cups & champs league. But all of this could be in jeopardy without a striker to offer something different. We are relying on foden & gundy scoring at the minute.

As it stands city have one fit striker & I would class Jesus as a winger not even a striker.

i truly understand your point ? but who is willing to sell at this time of year defo not the top clubs
also bring in somebody now can upset the apple cart and the need to fit him in may change the training setup or style yes last summer was the right time. but city put all the eggs into the messi basket and he bottled it

so this summer coming. city have to go and get every target pep set out for the city group to sign
forget the money or price they will cost ? because city are the only club in europe that has money burning in their pockets and selling clubs will need to balance there books

Agree with that too. Tricky for the club

Injuries are part of football and it’s how you adapt to them
We need a top drawer striker and a long term replacement for Aguero
I expect that’s planned for summer we wheels in motion
It’s very rare that the top top players become available in Jan
So who do you get ? At best an ageing forward on loan or a short term deal that may upset the team balance and take ages to adapt
That is also assuming one would come
If I was Costa sat in Spain would I come to the UK for 3 or 4 months upset and uproot my family knowing City had Haaland lined up and I’m out the door
I’m not sure I would

Interesting what Pep is saying in this article in the MUEN:

Basically that we have no striker that is reliable at present due to Kuns absence (Gabriel's numbers are not good) and that normally when you are challenging for the top of the league you have one or two top strikers with lots of goals. He goes on how that this is so important in tight games against other good teams but at the moment we are havng to rely on lots of the midfielders to score goals.

Hopefully this is signalling that we will go for a striker in the transfer window. Ive said all along that GJ isnt that striker ...he is part of a front 3 and a very good part but he isnt the one to be relied upon in the tight moments like Aguero can be.

Ive said int he Aguero thread that I believe he is being phased out and Im still feeling that way...if this season isnt his last next definitely i and I believe we will have to get his replacement in before he goes

I’m glad it shows the club recognise we need a striker. There’s no-one really available until summer so I can understand why we didn’t bother in January, but we must get the very best we can this summer, I’m hoping Haaland, seeing as Mbappe isn’t interested and Kane is as injury prone as Aguero. There isn’t anyone else good enough, except Son maybe.

I agree, but then I never thought otherwise. It seems obvious, and the club aren't stupid, so the question is more who not whether we will.

I wouldn’t be convinced on Son and at 29 he’s not a long term successor to Aguero. As you say it has to be the best, so I’m hoping we steer miles clear of Nunez at Benfica.

Not sure our exercise in the finances surrounding Messi was us actually after Messi the player, more a case of ` Striker wanted only the best need apply`
Giroud would have been my short term fix, yep a plan B so we could see if Pep can play it.
