New striker?

Don’t know why we’ve not been linked with Mbappe at all. Wages and signing on fee would probably be similar to Haaland. If he’s leaving on a free, I don’t see why we wouldn’t be an option.

I know he’s dead set on Madrid, but if they decide on Haaland, we should fully go in for him. I’d say he’s the biggest footballer not named Messi, Ronaldo or Neymar.

He looked like a stroppy lazy little twat like his pal Neymar when we played them.

Wouldn’t want someone with a weak mentality and poor team ethic like that near my club personally.

Yeah I like him. Had some injury issues this season but solid striker, was a goal every 2games last season, was a goal a game before the injury this year. Very good positionally and xG wise. Not my first choice but I’d have him on the list of alts.
He has looked good in the past don’t really
Follow non city players looked at his stats this season and they are poor but that could be down to number of minutes is that only due to injury or is he out of form

is he capable of playing the pep way

If we think Haaland is, i see no reason DCL cant. His underlying numbers on when/where he gets into positionally and shot choice is excellent. I think at the time of the initial post Everton were looking even worse so maybe he'd jump ship. I'd definitely have him scouted and on the alternate list for me after Haaland.

Who should be our next striker?
This is real tough one, and watching the game last night doesn’t make it easier. What was clear throughout, but especially in the first half, was that there was never anyone attacking the near post, so all the crosses were going to the keeper or being cleared easily. So do we go for that predator type who hunts in that area? But then you may think, that if we got a different type, say fast or tall etc then we could play a slightly different attacking strategy? Would Pep do that? And then to complicate it further, what if Pep leaves at the end of next season and the next manager, has a slightly different idea on the attacking build up?
For these reasons and more I think it’s a really difficult decision who to go for and in some ways, maybe that decision needs to be made next season? That would mean missing out on Haaland for now but it may be best in the long term.
We could easily have the last season with Pep again without that recognised striker and instead work on the long term full back replacements and another midfielder.
Either way, I’m glad we’ve got the people running the club that we do, I have faith they will get it right

Jonathan David vs Honduras last night

Not suggesting him for us... But the lad shows how a pacey striker can be an instant game changer.

(and he's my countryman and I wanted to show him off)
Fellow Canadian here,

Secretly I'd love for us to get him as I think he is like a quick false 9 type of striker, not as a traditional 9, but still another option that my better.

I think he'd be relatively cheap too, 50-60m max I'd guess.

I just don't think he is on the club's radar even a little bit, unfortunately.

He’s probably not near enough the finished article for us, but there’s just something about River Plate’s Julian Alvarez that intrigues me. I know Ajax want him and apparently Villa, too, and he’s almost certainly bound for Europe soon. He’s been a winger but is starting to fill out and has the physical strength and that low centre of gravity that helps to play through the middle. Got a brace in the Superclasico yesterday and now has 7 in 11 in the league this season. Call me nostalgic but I do miss having an Argentinian in the team.

Like a broken clock, I guess.

I think we're in the position where we just have to go for Haaland as you simply can't pass up the opportunity to sign a generational player if we have a shot at signing him.

However, if we don't land him, i'm very much of the view that we continue with what we already have after the signing of Alvarez.

With Delap entering the fold again so soon after injury, it's clear Pep rates him, so it will be interesting to see Pep manage it if we do end up signing Haaland and Alvarez joins up with us for the second half of the 22/23 season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an outgoing forward this summer, but with Sterling's resurgence, i'm not quite sure who that would be.

Alvarez taking Jesus' spot would be the most likely move in my eyes - whilst Jesus set off this season well, he's again looking like he's stagnated (appreciate he's injured at the moment). I think a move in the summer would do him good to be honest, as much as I rate him.
