New striker?

The silver lining to this striker situation, for me at least, would be Delap getting a genuine shot at being the main number 9 this season.

Make the most out of a bad situation and just throw Liam in the deep end. He's a proper goal scorer, a big bastard physically and you get the sense that it wouldn't remotely phase him. He'd relish it.

Giving Delap a run of starts isn't going to be the difference between us winning and losing games in my opinion given the attacking talent that would surround him and I think he's far more likely to put away the countless opportunities our creative players serve up each game than a player forced out of position will.

You don't know what will happen until the club are willing to take a gamble. For all we know we could have our own Haaland and we could save £150m.

I know it's not going to happen and Torres will be lining up as our CF this weekend, but it's just such an obvious solution if the club can't sign a striker before the end of the window.

I really like Delap but he’s still very raw abd has real aggression issues. He will get sent off quite a bit.

And he's not going to iron that out of his game until he's actually getting minutes. As I said, it's a gamble, but you sometimes need to take that gamble - especially if the club aren't willing to go the distance in the transfer market.

He's raw, but he scores goals. I would be very comfortable betting that you give him 20-30 games as our CF this season and he would outscore whatever false 9 option we decide to play instead.

It's a strikers dream playing in our side, all we need is a goal scorer to convert the chances and he's probably the most natural scorer we have knocking around the first team right now.

Pep played Lewandowski at Bayern every time he was available with the exception of two games in his time there. He scored a shitload of goals every season? Is it too much to ask for a guy that will score a portion of what Lewandowski did?
Right now we’re asking Pep to be our striker, and sometimes LB and DM too. Tactics can only take you so far

It’s a Cinderella story this Delap talk. He needed to be loaned; if he stays, he will play very little games. A club aiming to be the best in Europe can’t rely on a guy just out of the Academy.

He’ll definitely get some minutes this season. But it would be foolish to back all our hopes on an EDS striker coming good.
