New striker?

Pep has said about signing a striker: "We thought about it, another type of striker, but we couldn’t do it. When you decide to buy a striker, they need to be on Gabriel and Sergio’s level and you cannot afford it. That’s the reality, when you try to buy a striker it has to be someone at the level of Sergio & Gabriel and they are hard to buy and very expensive. We didn’t expect Gabriel to be injured while Sergio was coming back"

You can't go into a season expecting everyone to stay fit either, makes you wonder if they enquired about Haaland or Mbappe and got scared off by the price. If that's the case it will be no different duding the next transfer windows. I don't think we are up for competing for the biggest and most expensive players anymore.
Of course it will be different next summer, Aguero will likely be gone, we won’t be spending the biggest part of our budget on a centre back.

You also don't expect both strikers to be out at the same time.

It would be ridiculous to have signed another striker without selling one first.

It is like saying we need a third first team quality goalkeeper in case Ederson and Steffen both get injured. 2 players for one position is plenty.

They have been both out injured at the same time for decent period before in previous seasons.

Contracted season time , reduced pre season , 4 competitions and Kuns last year with his aging body menaing he is likely to play only half in half the games if that knowing he is coming off a 4 month injury.

of course we need another striker and needed one this year , Messi was mooted and Pep has admitted they wanted another striker but couldn't get one of note which in itself is disturbing.

I have said for a while we are struggling to get ready made WC players in the side.

How many do we now have.

I remember when we had 4 strikers in the squad.

We better keep many more clean sheets this season if we to not slip any further than last season because our ability to score at the levels in the past is long gone.

in the past we could score enough without them now we struggle.

In our first 5 games last season we scored 16 goals fast forward to this season and its 8 and that's not only very worrying its depressing.

Would be far more interesting, rather than discussing who we didn’t buy last window, for this thread, for me, is which strikers are we likely to be looking at assuming Mbabbe and Haaland are more likely to end up in Spain.
Martinez and Felix were 2 mentioned , not sure about either, over the summer, but there must be others we could be looking at.

We need to ignore it like PSG and if some **** whines about us take the bastards down in court.
We won’t ignore because we don’t want to, PSG don’t ignore it either, City fans that don’t understand their finances saying they do is like fans of other teams not understanding ours saying we ignore it.

Isak, playing with david tonight. Could be a raw gem.

We should go all out for Haaland, whatever it takes. If he doesn't want to come, or for some reason the board don't believe he'll hugely improve the team, then Heung-Min Son would be a great signing to go for instead.

Son is a great player but would cost a bomb and is already 28.
We need to spend our money smarter than that.

No, the player that replaces Sergion won’t be 28, and when Jesus is 28 he’ll be better than Son. The player to replace Sergio will be a similar age and profile he was when he joined us, so about 23 ish.

We played two up front when he had 4 strikers in the squad, essentially 2 for each position which puts us in the same position as now.

There is no squad in world football that has 3 top forwards for one position.

If we were going to sign a striker this summer they would have to be better than Jesus which narrows it down to like 3 available players and we would have to sell Aguero.

It's incredibly spoilt to think we need another top striker to cover 3 weeks the other two are both unavailable.

Kane has got to be an option.

Yes, he would be expensive but if we had a price I.e. £100 million and he wanted to come Spurs would have to consider it.

He is always talking about winning trophies and we win the most.

Yes, Levy might refuse to do it but no-one wants an unhappy player and he has done his time at Spurs.

Think it would depend if they got CL, but if not there could be a deal to be done.

Kane is not an option due to age injuries.

Little Alf and Mbappe have to be top of the list, don't think we have a chance on either but we have to go and try and maybe break the bank in our attempts.

The reward if we got either would be huge.

Kane is truly world class, but with his age and injury record, I don’t think he’d be the right option. But we may well have Poch as our manager next season... we can’t rule Kane out.

Our scouts need to earn their pay for me

It's ok spending shit loads on a new CF but we have known for a long time Serg would be coming to the end of his glorious career with us.

We picked Gabby up which was good business we should have been active for a an other.
Not for replacing Aguero we don't.No matter how good, scouts find young players that might or might not make it, there is no certainty. Some clubs can take risks on players like that,so can we with our network and clubs and do. Jesus will become an important player for us.When it comes to replacing Aguero though we need a first team ready player, early 20s that as far as we can be sure is ready to take Aguero's place next season.

How do you know they haven't?
Unless you believe they have been sat at home for four years, booted up football manager and found Gabby and sent that over to Txiki then logged off for the day.

Scouts can find a million players, doesn't matter what they think if it gets to Pep and/or Txiki and they disagree.

Regardless of the Messi situation we need to push ahead with this one, it's pretty clear now.

Pushing that signing forward from summer to January may be more appealing to the club if we're around the top spots come December, if we have a chance to win it then investing earlier would be more possible.

I don't think we can wait for Haaland, certainly for his reported release fee date, if we'd even deal with his agent, I can't see us signing a lower cost relatively unknown player this time around, could be we end up looking at a loan in January with obligation to buy.

Personally I want Martinez, I just think he suits us, but it's clear now we need more firepower. If we don't then we are settling for also rans, not something I'd hope to associate with us.
