New striker?

I've grown to rate The Athletic for the in depth analysis pieces (most of the time), but I don't trust anyone at all over there regarding transfer speculation relating to City.

No new striker. Just let Gündogan unleashed and bring on Torres more often.

Ings wouldn`t make any sense at all. He thrives in Southampton since they`re a defensive side and he has acres of space to run into and use his pace, something he wouldn`t be able to do here. Nothing from what I`ve seen from him would make me believe he`s a good fit here. His passing, dribbling and link up play look below par, and he`s injury prone and already 28. Hopefully just some smokescreen for another target
It may be just me with limited games I’m seen him play but I think he is not good enough for us. He would struggle with our team moving the ball quicker and needing to work a packed defence.

there has to be an element of smoke screen and paper talk in regards to Ings, we will get more names leaked to then make clubs know we will just go elsewhere, ""here's £100m for Haaland, take it or we come back for his release clause next season or we will just buy Kane"

We were linked with Oyarzabal as a Sane replacement last year. He's hit double-digits 3 years in a row and now has 8 in 15. Could he be a False 9?

This is the way.

Senior forwards signed by Guardiola as a manager:

Zlatan Ibrahimović
David Villa
Alexis Sánchez
Robert Lewandowski
Douglas Costa
Kingsley Coman
Leroy Sané
Gabriel Jesus
Nolito
Ferran Torres

Wity the exception of Ibra (which did not work out) and Lewa (who is one of the best center forwards of his generation), Pep has only signed technical, versatile, quick forwards. Ings and Lukaku don’t fit the bill even remotely

There’s no way we’re replacing our best ever striker with 28 year old injury prone Danny Fucking Ings. Should be either Haaland or Jovic
Can you read? It says if we sign 2 strikers.

My guess is this would be an option if we use Jesus as a makeweight for Haaland.

Obviously if you add a load of wingers it will look like that. He's not signing a bunch of slow, strong, tall wingers... is he?

Centre-forwards:
Ibrahimović
Villa
Lewandowski
Jesus

50% of his striker signings are tall, strong, lethal target men.

AND one of the small, technical strikers played his whole career under Pep as a winger (Villa)
THE ONLY "small, technical, versatile, quick" CF he signed that he actually played as a CF is Jesus.

He played Villa wide left most of the time, and Gabby lines up there fairly often too. So that’s Ibra, who he sacked off after a season, and Lewandowski, probably the best pure striker of his generation.

He’s signed and actually kept one traditional striker in his 12 seasons as a senior manager

Forwards that Pep has sold as a manager:

Samuel Eto’o
Eidur Gudjohnsen
Zlatan Ibrahimović
Thierry Henry
Bojan Krkic
Mario Gómez
Mario Mandzukić
Stevan Jovetić
Edin Džeko
Wilfried Bony
Nolito
Kelechi Iheanacho
Enes Ünal
Leroy Sané

A lot of traditional strikers shown the door
Also some of the most technical, versatile, quick, talented strikers too. Henry, Gudjohnsen, Eto'o, Bojan, Nolito etc.

P.S. Pep didn't sell Džeko. He had long been frozen out and was on loan at Roma with a permanent deal lined up when Pep arrived.

Did not sell, Jovetic and Dzeko. That was Pellegrini

Bony is the one that still probably haunts him today. What a player.
