New UEFA coefficient rules are BS

As far as I can tell all these rules are designed to do is to ensure that the old guard (the Real Madrids, Barcelonas, Bayern Munichs, Manchester Uniteds and AC Milans) are ensured knockout qualification.

What kind of f****d up ranking system produces a group which has the actual Champions of 3 of the 4 best football leagues in the world?! It could only have been worse if we'd had the Italian champions as well.

How is a team supposed to improve their coefficient and elevate themselves given such logistics? It looks like we're now all but out of this year's CL at the first hurdle again, no doubt we can look forward to next year's CL draw (Barca, Juventus and Schalke I'm guessing) whilst the rags can easily maintain their coefficient against teams I have honestly never even heard of (Cluj?! wtf?!).
Good thread.

But not when city are playing ffs

How else do you expect them to maximise the TV rights and keep the sponsor's happy? That's why teams that finish 3rd and 4th in the major leagues are included.

Yes, our group is a difficult group but all the English teams have had to deal with this and so will we.

But they haven't had to deal with it mate... These rules were only introduced two years ago, just in time for us. Look at the CL group Tottenham had in their first ever CL foray the year before last, much easier than the group we're currently in and they placed 4th in the league and had to qualify!

I agree I mention was talking about this a while back every team who qualifies should be put into a hat and drawn at random if it ends up City, Chelsea, Barca and Real then so what that would be amazing and it would give every team a fair opportunity.

However we went out last year to Napoli who we should be beating. No offensive to them as I quite like their team but we should be beating them. Like now Real are a class above us but Dortmund are not if we were to finish 3rd then thats unlucky and understandable as there is not much difference between us and Dortmund but to get dicked off Ajax is a joke. Coefficent rules or not if we cannot beat the likes of Napoli and Ajax then we do not deserve to qualify for the last 16.

I think it is a good system. Not for us, not now, but all in all it is a pretty good system.

We had the chance in the EL to get many coeff. points but failed to get trough against Sporting and Kijev.

It is a 5 year system so one very good or very bad season doesnt change it up that much.

Well no good things for us because this season we wont even get as many poi/nts probably as last year or the year that counts for the calculations (5 year ago, 08/09 season). So our average point will be lower than this year.

We possibly will go back to Pot 3. This year we had some "luck" we were Pot 2 because many teams with better coeff. point that are CL participants most of the time didnt get into the group stages. (Inter, Lyon etc.)

We could have 10 times more coeff. points but playing like this still will be punished by good teams with tactical plan.

Need to win the Europa League this year if we get third, no excuses. Mancini can save himself if he does that.

Not really. It's to ensure revenue and not having top teams in the same group and shit teams not get through by not having to face better teams. I agree with the system and it'll help us in a few years when we're better in Europe. If we can't beat Ajax then changing the coefficient would have done jack shit today. Losing to Ajax is inexusable. Even the rags beat them last year.<br /><br />-- Wed Oct 24, 2012 9:25 pm --<br /><br />
