New v Old supporters

If someone wants to swap the club they support so they are always supporting the most successful team then it's up to them. I don't wear how long I've supported city as a badge of honour. I supported city for all these years because it means a lot to me personally and would continue to support them even if we continue to win nothing. What I do know is that no one can feel the same level of pride and fulfilment of success unless you are willing to follow your club through thick and thin. So I.don't resent new fans - I just know they can't enjoy our hopefully imminent success as much as people who have been through the dark times

I will be honest and say i am a Johnny come lately.

As i am from Scotland never really followed a team but because City have money and the chance of being big i supported them & have been to a couple games (spending a coupe 100 pounds in the process)

not having a go, but have you not got a local team to follow?

its a free world but your following a club for all the wrong reasons.

I think the opposite.
To me it's the new young fans that are fanatics , the diehards if you like, we oldies have been there done that.
I love my club but as you get older you have other priorities, it's no longer the be all and end all of my waking day, used to be but just not at that manic level these days.
They are in my heart and in my blood but it's time to let the next generation have the baton and so it goes on.

Bloody hell, you miss countdown today fella?

;)

Beith juniors? no thanks.Serious question did anyone moan when the Thais were at every game? Did the other lot complaign when the South Koreans started watching them? Even Stockport.

I have always admired City as a teenager my first real memory f City is Benarbia and Berkovic and liking the 3-5-2 formation they played.

just as a matter of interest. if you took everyone who was not born in or around Manchester or second generation fans. what would be average attendance be. mid 30k my guess. secondly don't let this small minded group of people forget city just so happens to be owned by gloryhunters from outside Manchester.

I for one have no issues whatsoever with anyone who wants to have City as part of their life, even fleetingly.

I understand not everyone feel like that but it isnt older fans or fans from the 90's or whatever that are guilty of being precious with things.

If you think back to the Kiam thread about people who dont turn up for every game you will see that people of all types, ages, locale and time supporting City had a good enough chin wag about this very topic ;-)

What DOES get up more established fans noses is when people with less time at the coal face start dishing out advice to those who have, as De N' said have been there and done that.

But that happens in every sort of group where there is 'churn' such as the workplace.

as an oldie myself not got a problem with out of towners and younger fans. Spent a lifetime bringing my kids and grandkids into the blue way of thinking, against all odds with what they have won over the road. Want them to see some glory years , and if young & non mancunians, follow city we are doing something right, just sad its getting to expensive now .

like i said you can do what you want. but in your first post you said.....

"never really followed a team but because City have money and the chance of being big i supported them".

which is IMO isn't a decent reason to start following a club. but yeah whatever welcome, im not exactly going to stop you supporting city, so we might as well follow them together.

to be honest, i get a little bit annoyed people have started following us now we are more established in the league.

although i was there week in week out when pearce was in charge, and the stadium had many empty seats, and the majority people not turning up were local... i just hate the fact i might sit near these fickle wankers in the future.

but for the future of the club and where we are going, i think we have to welcome these new fans.... all be it with gritted teeth.
Being an American (and having no football team within hundreds of miles), my first sports memories were watching baseball with my granddad. I fell in love with the Boston Red Sox in 1981. I agonized for 23 years before we won a title in quite dramatic fashion to be honest. It had been 86 years since our last title. Think about that. 2.5 times longer than it's been for City. I started following City seven years ago and have loved them every moment. Only been to your country once and didn't get to go see a match, but my wife has promised me we will in the next couple years. Generally, we newcomers aren't fickle. I woke up at 3:30 a.m. last night and couldn't go back to sleep because I'm already having anxiety dreams about the upcoming derby. I support this club with everything I have.
