Sorry to go slightly off topic OP but, I was in the big asda at eastlands yesterday, i counted SIXTEEN blue shirts, FOUR navy blue away shirts, numerous coats and trackie tops and one red and black retro shirt! Not one red shirt, not even a scum hat, or anything at all. Mrs quagmire said i was sad, for beaming about this all the way home. I agree i may be a little obsessive, by the way, did i mention i was in asda yesterday.................

Was grandma there?

Wouldn't have noticed mate, unless she had a blue shirt on!

I am a fan of 40yrs and born in London now live in Kent. I see more City shirts on the streets in the south now more than ever, And it really pisses me off because i have been a season ticket holder for 26yrs and i now see theses people supporting my club because of the money we have. But i remember the shit i have had from a small number of supposed city fans being called a cockney c...t etc. I have always wanted the city fans in Manchester to get the monkey off there backs in the rags and welcome all fans regardless of where your from, So what i am trying to say is even cockney fans hate cockney people jumping on the band wagon, But we want to be massive and sadly this is going to happen. I have been lucky to meet some great blues fans from Manchester and long may that continue. So remember not all cockneys have jumped on the band wagon some of us love this club with passion just like city fans from Manchester after all we are all BLUES. CTID

Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a pocket of "old" supporters who feel that it is they and they alone who have the right to support the club?

What are your thoughts?
Yes, but only on here, never in person. And I'm sick of explaining myself. I'm supporting City, if you don't like it ignore me.

It's human nature for people who have had to endure something to be outwardly resentful of those who have not.

It is also a quirk of human nature that if you offered those people the chance to not have had those experiences in the first place they would refuse point blank.

And so it is with City fans.

"Were you there at York away?"
"Have you ever had to watch the likes of Jamie Pollock?"
"you don't 'get' this club"

I could go on.

People who have been there should realise that when we do win something it will mean so much more to them after all that we've been through.

Surely that's not grounds to resent people who haven't been there. If anything the opposite should be true.

I am one of these 'New' supporters that you talk of.I started following/supporting ( call it as you will) City since about the time that Thaksin took over.If i wanted to be a glory-hunter i could have easily supported utd or liverpool like 99% of the people here do , but i didn't.I started following football because of City and even if the owners leave tomorrow and we don't achieve any success for the next 50 years , i will still be a City supporter.

It's a natural instinct to treasure special things but advertise them and then be dissapointed when everyone joins in.
As example; My parents used to take us kids to treadure bay in wales when we were little (in the 60's gulp!) and the beach there was beautiful . . and empty. My parents quite naturally told all their friends about it as will have everyone else visiting . . end result was that the beach was crowded by the mid-70's and my folks were moaning about the influx of new people crowding the regulars out!

The fact is that something special brings people in and if you want to remain loyal to that special something then you need to button up and be happy about it's new more popular state or bugger off and go find another quiet beach (if it's a shit beach then it'll be empty forever).

I've been a blue since the 60's and I must admit that I have a very slight unease about the recent influx of new blues. . . I do however recognise that it's a 'me' problem and I've commenced a course of self-therapy to mend my ways .. I now encourge friends who aren't partisan about football to go to the CoMS . . many have become new fans and that's how it goes.

I've even got a friend (london born) ,who was a chelski fan, to go to see City - he now attends games when he can get tickets and knows more about us than he ever knew about the chelski. . . all being well his kid's will be brought up as blues and a new generation starts here.

Re Bosnian fans, Italian fans etc. bring it on! Football should bring people together - it's the antidote to the fascists and the religious movements that keep people apart - I hope it continues in that way to provide a common interest where people of all races, creeds, faiths and persausions can come together as one in support of the wonderful Manchester City.

I am a 26 year old blue from Cape Town, South Africa. I love this club, follow this forum daily (if not hourly!) and I watch every game that I'm able to here in SA....with a MCFC shirt on no less!

I've got family in Sale and when I visited in 2001, I saw the lads play Burnley at Maine Rd. Supported the outfit since I was young.

Now, I defy anyone to tell me I am not a true Blue or I'm a "glory-hunter" simply because I'm not a Manc. The support that I manage to enlist among other Saffas here surely has to be a good thing for the club??

What's happened here is that our sports network provider has rights to all oof the premier league games and FA and Europa cup games. They only show football on 3 channels and they show the games live that garner the most support from viewers. Isn't it a bloody good thing that City now trump the Scouse, Spurs and often Chelsea or Arsenal (who all used to be the automatic screening choices) as the choice game to screen on the main channel??? More and more Saffas are watching and joining the City movement. Good for the club, mehtinks.

C'mon Citeh!!!

it`s all about being city fan, i was with my dad in the kippax, when mike doyle sored to make it 3-0 against the rags, the north stand had`nt been opened, very long. but when mike scored, he walked behind the nets, lifted his arms aloft to the thousands of the rag fans, for about ten seconds.before he got back to his own half thirds of that was empty, why this was my best city moment i dont know, its just lived with me all these years, did`nt hear peep out of em, for a good while after that. i wonder why?.

I have been a Blue since 1996 or so. I am also an American. Does the fact that my first few years as a Blue were spent riding the elevator of relegation/promotion make me any more credible as a City fan? I don’t know that it does, but I do feel like it helps me understand why some Blues get irritated with fans who are just now beginning to support City today, as we move closer and closer to glory.
I have seen the good days and the bad days, as much as can be said by a fan who has only followed the team for 15 years or so. I have followed my hometown (Detroit) sports teams for all of my almost 44 years, so I guess I understand why some of the members of this board feel protective of City, or that they are “truer” Blues. I followed the Detroit Red wings for 30 years before they won a Stanley Cup, and I lived through some rough years along the way. Those rough years made the winning, when it happened, SO MUCH sweeter. I suppose this is what some of you are on about regarding “new fans”. They haven’t felt THE PAIN. And by the way, if you want to know pain, try being a lifetime fan of the Detroit Lions NFL team…
These days, when I watch my beloved Red Wings play road games, the crowd often cheers as loud or louder for us then for their home team. This is a direct result of our success over the last 15 years or so, when so many fans have jumped on our bandwagon. It happens especially when we play in places like California, Arizona and Florida, where there are also a lot of transplanted Detroiters living in the communities. I have to say, I actually like when I see that. Our local Fox Sports affiliate always takes the time to show these out of towners at away games, and I love seeing them their Red Wings gear, beer in hand, cheering us on.
I am also a Brewmaster at a pub for a living. I meet tons of ex-pat Brits at my job, and they all immediately assume I am a Man United fan when I tell them I am a footie fan. I love seeing their faces when I respond by asking WHO THE FUCK ARE MAN UNITED, often in song. If I see a guy in my pub wearing a filthy rag shirt (it happens quite often), you can bet I will be saying something to them about what a shit side they support, in some way or another. This is actually more fun with Americans, as they seem to be mostly United or Liverpool fans and just seem to expect that I will be a fan of United, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea.
I consider myself as true a blue as they come, and I have never been to Manchester. One of my dear friends, though, just travelled to England with his fiancé. They took the train up to Manchester (he is a HUGE Manchester music fan) and Chad returned to the States with a City lapel pin he bought for me at Eastlands. I was out of my mind as I put it on my coat…
New fans or old, at the end of the day, I don’t think it should matter as long as they support City with pride and class.

I don't mind fans from other countries supporting city like you say you've been a fan for years through the shit and shitter but i only have one rule
