New year honours

I’d make him “Sir Michael of Manchester” even though he’s a Swindon lad, met him a couple of times, top bloke.

On another subject, I’m sure it was Tony Henry who was nervous about meeting Princess Anne before the FA Cup final of 1969 so he was told just to say nothing. However on shaking hands with Anne he came out with “how’s your mam?”

Class, if untrue someone will put me right.
And that evening at the celebration dinner, he received a telegram from the Queen thanking him for his kind wishes

I always admire the one's who turn down these honours.

David Bowie, Tom Finney, Alan Bennett, John Cleese, LS Lowry, Aldous Huxley, Rudyard Kipling, Peter O'Toole, there's quite a list.

Wonder if @Ric would accept ? :)

The biggest rejection I suppose would be Cromwell who turned down the crown after the abolition of the monarchy, he said..."I would not seek to set up that which Providence hath destroyed and laid in the dust, and I would not build Jericho again."[
That's right, typical politician says one thing then chases the opposite. Might not have had the Crown but behaved as though he had.

I would say the biggest rejection was Kipling, it could have affected his cake sales.
