Go to American Express Office, get a card for withdrawing money. I travel between the UK and US every month and my bank charges a 1% fee on international transactions. See what your bank will charge on a Debit (ATM) card, and if needed accept a limit, because credit cards are the way to go anyway. They have fraud protection, you get the banks exchange rate, and if you have an even halfway decent bank, their international exchange cost is either 0 or 1%.
