Newcastle 11th May 1968 let's have your memories...

God how old does it make you feel watching that. I was 18 and went on my own on a coach from Stockport that broke down in Leeds. My memories were a bit like the film hazy and noisy. A hell of a long day and exhausted but exhilarated

Not my memory… but …

my dad went up with the junction pub in cheadle hulme.

one thing that always stuck out for him was how amazing the geordies were that day, buying blues drinks etc
My dad told me eight years earlier we gave Burnley and their supporters a fantastic reception when they won the league at Maine Rd

As per thread title.

I was fourteen at the time and saved up my pocket money for the 32s/6d return rail fare from Stalybridge. The ground was absolutely jam packed and the atmosphere was electric. United were breathing down our necks so it was a must win game. As it happened, they lost the last game of the season to Sunderland at the swamp 2-1.

However a few days later they won the European cup beating Benfica 4-1 so the disappointment was short lived.

Great commentary - at 2-2, Nelly Young scored "to make it 3-1". And city chanting Champions "probably joined by some sporting Newcastle fans"..... and loved the permanent VAR line down the middle of the film lol!

Went on the coach from Gorton Connelly's coaches,16 at the time with all my mates in the Newcastle End the Leazers.Fantastic day think we took the ground over, pay at the gate in those days took thousands.
We were in the other end. Friendliest crowd I've ever been in. The locals didn't want Sunderland to win, but they wanted us to win the league rather than the rags. Obviously, Sunderland were (quite rightly) the much lesser of two evils for Geordies on the day.

Was in my first year at university and for weeks before the Newcastle match I'd been fancying a lovely lass who I thought was out of my league but let me know I was in with a chance if I'd turn up to a party on the Saturday night. Even so I set off early morning to hitch-hike to Newcastle. Got stuck by the side of the road in pissing rain, no cars stopping, so gave up at 2 p.m and got a train back in time to hear Sports Report with the good news. Then much later that night was asked "aren't you glad you came to my party instead of going to the football match? "

I was at home watching Grandstand and seeing the scores coming through on the teleprinter. City were 4-2 up so thought we were home and dry, then Newcastle got one back so was biting my nails not knowing what was going on for the last few minutes.

Then the teleprinter printed the immortal line; "FT: Newcastle 3 Manchester City 4. Manchester City champions for the first time since 1937".
